But what about those of us who own Toyotas, Nissans and Subarus and have never had a problem with floormats? Are we somehow smarter than the average bear?
BTW, do you ever go to bed?

I don't necessarily believe it's the floor mats. Figure you have 250,000,000 vehicles of all shapes, makes, models, sizes, etc on the road. In the last 10 years you there have been 25,000-30,000 complaints about sudden acceleration. Even if you increase that number to 250,000 figuring people don't make official complaints...that's still only .001% of all vehicles on the road.

I believe some are mats, some are driver errors and others are flaws or problems in the car. I had a 1985 Mercury Cougar that did this exact thing in cold weather (IE 40 degrees or less) if you didn't warm it up for 5-10 minutes. Crazy to have to start a car in 35 degree weather and let it run for 5 minutes just so the throttle doesn't stick causing SUDDEN ACCELERATION (sinister laugh)

I realize it is scary and stinks, especially if you are one that died, or had someone die, but people die every day from all sorts of stuff. If you learn basic safety, IE...place car in neutral, turn key back so you shut off engine but still have power, thus you have steering and such...bring car safely to shoulder. That's all I did.
