I had 67k on my 09 highlander, driver side went out in June '12, passenger front july '12, and last week the back right lock March '13, as of today 76k miles. And there's not a design problem?? Yeah, right.

Write to the TSA - I think it is a safety issue -

08 Highlander: both front and left rear door lock actuators have gone out. We thought the fourth actuator went out but they said the wire had come loose and cost $105 to fix. They couldn't answer why a wire inside the door comes loose, just pay up and we'll fix it.
Very fustrated with Toyota and this vehicle. Called Toyota Customer Service who told me they don't have problems with the lock actuators. I would really like to know how many others are having this problem with their Toyota's?

My 2003 Highlander, front passenger door lock actuator also broke. The cheapest OEM part I found was $300. It's a minor inconvenience and annoyance. But Toyota's supplier for the door actuators need to be replaced with a higher quality part.

I ordered part # 746-603 for my 2003 Highlander Driver side door lock. It worked perfect.
The part for the highlander comes as a complete package and cost a bundle, if you want just the actuator, order the rav 4 part.
Different part number for the passenger side.

We had this problem and our mechanic held down the outside door lock button for ten seconds and reset the computer. Works fine now. Wonder why Toyota isn't telling their customers?

My mechanic held down the outside lock for ten seconds and reset the computer. It worked like a charm. Why doesn't Toyota service mention this?$400 bucks a door maybe.

This is really annoying. I have a 2011 Toyota Highlander with 59,000 miles. I've had 4 actuators go bad (in 3 different doors) within the last 6 months. The dealer tried to make me pay but come on it's a 2 year old $38,000 vehicle! Seriously! Now my 4th actuator just went out and I am fearful to retun it to the dealer.

Having the exact same problem with my 2011 Highlander (no warranty here too, due to mileage). Very annoying! I spent $38,000 two years ago on this car and there is simply no excuse to be experiencing these issues.

What do you mean by held down the lock? With the key?

Same question as Jim...I tried "holding down the outside lock" with my inserted key in both directions for well over 10 seconds (2002 Highlander), which opened and closed the window only. Also tried holding down the interior "lock all doors" control, but nothing. Need a better description of what the mechanic did to reset the door lock actuator. All 3 other doors work fine....

Hold down the outside door lock didn't work for me so I ordered the part suggested above, DORMAN 746603 (746-603) Door Lock Actuator $ 55.79 $ 0.00 1 $ 55.79. My son-in-law watched the utube video and put it in in about an hour. Works fine now! Yea! Thanks Matt.

I have an 08 Highlander and 3 of the actuators went out in Dec of 2011-at the same time (driver side front and rear and front passenger). Recently took it to the local dealership for the recall on the power windows, which I haven't had a problem with. I informed them that the problem I had was with the actuators and that 3 of them had gone out all at the same time!! Of course, they said that "they had never heard of that happening" and that "only one other person had mentioned having a problem with ONE of the actuators in his Highlander." They quoted me $1000 for the parts and then $300 labor to replace them. Looks like with so many people having problems that Toyota would do something about it. I had a Camry before the Highlander and it was a great car but was too small. I love my Highlander but there has been so many recalls that I can't even remember and not only have 3 of the actuators gone out but my radio has not worked properly since 2010! Question for the gentleman that stated he used actuators for the RAV 4 in his Highlander: does it matter what year the Highlander is and what would I need to get for my 2008 Highlander? Thank you so much:)
