My remote control cannot unlock the front driver side door. It's a door lock actuator problem my mecanic says. Toyota say they don't sell lock actuator separate. One must buy the entire system. Does anyone know how to fix this problem, or where to to find the lock actuator?
Thanks

Same for me except it is the passenger's side.

I think Toyota has a design problem! Would be interested in knowing how many failures they really have!

Could be a safety issue if you had to lock all your doors quickly.

Same happened to our 2005 highlander, both driver and passenger sides. Toyota quoted $441 a peice to fix it, argh. I went to three salvage yards today and am frustrated... they don't keep bad doors because there is not much to salvage and you can cannabilize off a good door. A whole door to fix a lock is just silly ($250 was the cheepest i found, but wrong color - after paint it would be about the same price as the dealer, eh?)

Experiencing same with my '08 Highlander. Quoted $475 for part, plus $105/hour with no timeline. Very frustrating!

08 Highlander: both front and left rear door lock actuators have gone out. We thought the fourth actuator went out but they said the wire had come loose and cost $105 to fix. They couldn't answer why a wire inside the door comes loose, just pay up and we'll fix it.

Very fustrated with Toyota and this vehicle. Called Toyota Customer Service who told me they don't have problems with the lock actuators. I would really like to know how many others are having this problem with their Toyota's?

Same problem with passenger front door of '05 Highlander. Don't have $500 to fix so I manually lock/unlock door with key. I'm trying to find the actuator motor but no luck and no help from Toyota

I have the same problem. It started with one of the back doors, then a couple days later the other back door, then a few days later the drivers door. I am going to Toyota armed with this web site and several others.

2005 Highlander - Same problem - driver's door - local dealers offer the Actuator pkg at $326 plus labor of 2 hours (about $100 / hour). All very pricey. Will use the key until I decide. Just does not seem right. And if more doors become affected -

2005 Highlander
door lock actuator, window

I had a Highlander door lock actuator quit, I couldn't find just the Actuator for a Highlander so I used a 2005 Rav4 ACTUATOR and it works perfect,$100 from advance auto vs $300 from toyota.
This is a really simple fix. Remove the panel (directions online) unplug the actuator , remove screws, replace actuator.....just be sure to get the actuator pin in the lock slot. I didn't and the window would roll down after you unlocked with the key phobe, and you can't hook up the key-lock. You need a putty knife, phillips screw driver, needle nose pliers, star head screw driver, knife.
It really is simple, but I made it very complicated ;)

I wanted to clarify this.2005 Highlander Actuator
remove door panel
http://bodyshopzone.com/archives/trim/door_pa...

you will need to remove the door handle and key lock 2 screws
remove inside handle
remove 3 screws @ door catch, and 1 inside door
remove window track screw
slide acuator assembly down move window track up out of the way slide interior handle through hole
unplug and remove actuator(this is hard use some needle nose pliers) from inside door
replace with the 2005 Rav4 acuator (from auto parts store $100)
reinstall in reverse order

This will take you about an hr if you have any sense, it took me a few because of my screw ups.I don't know the exact yrs that everything will swap out but the rav4 interchanged for me.

Driver's side door hasn't locked with remote for a couple of years. 2005 model. Just use the key, but dislike the inconvenience. My mechanic at the dealership quoted $500+ to fix. Sounds like there is a pervasive issue with Toyota actuators.

Same issue with driver door on my 2006 Highlander Hibred.Toyota wants 469$ for "assembly". Seems to be a rip off. I'm familiar with feeling taken by Toyota as this SUV has never gotten near the fuel economy claimed when I bought it.
Probably my last go around with the company.

Remote lock of Driver side door of my 2005 Highlander is not working and you could hear a loud thump sound from inside of the door. It all started by pressing the remote key twice before it opens or locks. After a few weeks, now it doesn't work. I only have about 80,000 miles on the car. With all the remarks by the consumers of expensive repair by the dealer on this particular problem, this is really a rip off and Toyota should do something about it.

I am having the exact same problem at 67,xxx miles. This problem appears to be widespread judging by the number of occurrences on websites. Should be a Toyota recall for this.
