Well, I don't like to talk about anyone but I noticed this subject on here and I had to tell my side. I had heard about the Homecoming Church up Calf Creek and that they were getting donations to help the needy people in Martin County. I am not one to take hand outs but, I had found me and my children in a rough spot and needed a little help. I got the number and called Mrs. Harris about getting help with furniture. I went so far as to tell her that my children were sleeping on mattress on the floor and we were in desperate need of beds. She informed me that they were getting 4 trucks in that next week and that she would put my name on the list and call me when she got it..Well the day came and she never called...Oh well people forget..right...NO..when we drove up there to check em out they wouldn't let anyone have anything..said they were putting it all in the building and locking it up and they would sort it out another day. Although while we were there Mrs. Harris seemed awfully worried that someone had picked up some things that she had put aside for herself. and there were a bed delivered to the front porch of her sons house waiting for him..Now that's not really what bothered me I mean they are poor people too and probally need things just like the next but she assured me that she would call when she got to the list..I waited a week she never called..I called back she informed me that she still hadn't had a chance to go through the things..so I waited again. Finally I made one last attempt to call her, she informed me that "they" had it all grabbed before she had a chance to make it home..whoever they was supposed to be..Anyway I just thought I would add a little insight to what was going on. Also I would like to add that I know that they were donated a truck full of kerosene heaters last month to hand out to the needy people with no heat and I know one boy that received more than one of those and sold them..and that their son took a load of them to the Inez Pawn Shop and sold them..They should be ashamed..If the problem is that they aren't up to handling the donations properly they should turn it over to someone else. They are more needy people in this county than the ones that live on calf creek and are friends with Mr and Mrs Harris.. As for me I won't be asking for anything else..Id rather do without than be put given the runaround..Thanks anyway...

IF ITS THE SAME CHURCH I WAS TOLD ABOUT, I THINK ITS A DISGRACE..i have family who went there and helped when the church needed help and when they was down on there luckthe church turned there backs on them..they way i see it if they get the stuff donated then they should make sure the people saying the need it really does need it, not to take it to the pawn shop to sell it..

This is to all of the people that are complaining of the way thing are running at the church, if all the people would quit putting us down and trying to tell us how to do thing we might get stuff organized a little better, but if people don't leave us alone we can't do nothing. we are blessed and give out over 400 food boxes to families and almost 300 vegetable boxes this month alone. And not to our families, and for the heaters. Their son was not the one who sold the heater either, I called myself to make sure of that, the pawn shop has to have a reciept to show where they purchase there stuff, to protect them.

I think some of you need to get your facts straight. My Mom and Dad might make mistakes but NEVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR have they turned their backs on anyone in need. I have no idea who it is that needed help and didn't get the furniture but I am truly sorry about that and so was my Mom. She was told by the missionaries who came in that they would go by the list but after they got here they just unloaded and gave it out to all the people who were standing around. My mom or "MRS. HARRIS" as you are calling her had NOTHING to do with how that stuff was handled. It was the people who brought it in here. As far as my brother taking heaters up to the pawn shop to pawn them, that is a flat out LIEEEEEEEE. They gave all of those heaters out to people who needed them. There was I believe 100 heaters and I know for a fact that they gave them out. Actually, they gave them out while the news was there. If you have any doubt about it, why dont you call the lady who donated them and ask her youself. Her name is Amy and my mom could give you her number. Apparently you know my mothers number quite well if you have called her enough to be turned down. I don't live in Martin County anymore and I thank God that I do not if there are people like you who would get mad and start rumors about people who are trying to make a difference in the lives of some unfortunate people. If you have any problems with the way you think things are being ran, which I assure you, this is not true, then why don't you bring it before the church and "Mr. Harris" in private as opposed to posting it all over topix for everyone to spread even more rumors? I pray that God has mercy on your soul.

Oh and btw, I watched my brother Danny Jo, the one you said took heaters to the pawn shop, give away his own heater to someone who needed it. My parents also gave me their heater when my electric was out in Ashland. Yeah, those were some things that went to the family but things go as far as Lawrence County, West Virginia, and they've even taken supplies of stuff to flood victims in Pike County. Hmmmm. What horrible people my family is...

When things come into the homecoming church they tell us to first give to the members, then the calf creek community, and then what is left over to give out to other people. All of the members are at the church and need help too. I am sorry if anyone has been offended but I am trying my best to do this right. It is God's work, not mine. As far as the donations, I have to go by what the donators tell me to do when they come in.

We served over 550 familes in this area for Christmas. What was given to us here was given out. We have the books to show it.

Also, Please, if you have a problem with me, do not take it to topix. Bring it to me in the "Biblical way" one-on-one.

Betty, you shouldn't have to explain anything to anyone. You and Elmer are good people and these people will believe what they want and it doesn't what anyone says. You guys are doing good things and some people can't stand this. You guys will always hold a special place in my heart, Elmer was there for me when Brandon was sick and I will never foget this. I love you guys, and I don't even have anything to fix my kids Christmas dinner but all this has caused not only me but others also from asking for any help at all.
Just keep doing what you guys are doing and guys when others start this, then it only means that you guys are doing something right. I love you guys

I think I know who you are from your message and I thank you for posting your comment. It means alot to me and to my Mom. I just pray that all this blows over. Anything worth doing is hard though isn't it.

And, to anyone out there that needs help... If they can help you at all- dont hesitate to ask. They might not be able to help right then but they will try.

Homecoming will continue to be a blessing to the area. Because they give from their heart. Sadly sometimes people are nver happy. The harrris's work so hard and are tired but often people dont see that. I love and respect Betty and Elmer. And I'm thankful for their giving heart.

Well Honey if your so in need and your poor children are sleeping on the floor. Perhaps, you need to have your internet disconected, and try a rent 2 own center ( theres one in Paintsville, Louisa) And get your children a bed. MY LANDS IF ur CHILDREN WERE SLEEPING ON THE FLOOR. whos fault is that. last I checked they were your children not the HARRIS'. SO THAT WOULD MAKE THE CHILDREN YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. and i no for a fact that they help people. but i want to tell you about a program that helps people who need it, its here in Martin COunty too, its called CAP. And they are located at the Roy Collier Community Center. And they help folks with budgeting ect. cause darling I think you need help, but in mananaging you income.'Cause, last I checked mickey Dees hires daily. And for your info-- its called GET A JOB, WORK 4 A LIVING, STOP LOOKING 4 A HANDOUT and bout the heaters they were given out that day by Gary Vickers, who works 4 Christian Appalachian Projects in Lancaster, ky. not givin by the Harris. If your gonna write sumthing at least get ur facts straigt. or big a real grown up and sign ur name.

just wanted to add that in wv, ky alone when the flood hit my husband and son-n-law went door too door delivering food, water, cloths, cleaning supplies too over 200 people. Even took down under pinning mind u in the mud. Not just 1 day but several.
so, if needed help y didnt u ask another member of the church. I peresonally think u are mad at sumthing else & taking it out on the church. I wish u truely knew the hours the FAMILY spent fixing adn delivering food baskets to those in need. Not so called falily members. others on th eholler, and dif states. did u no they delivered to several families when the electric was off. unfortunitily they were unable to reach all family due to the weather. not because they were not a harris. the church does not discriminate.and i hate that u have hurt feeling toward the church. If u need food, shelter call they do help folks.
