I have come to HATE my I-pass. I live in IL and just received my $850 I-pass violation notice! That amount is ludacris to start off with!! I have had an I-pass for probably 6yrs. There for I should have no FINES...or MISSED TOLLS! I call and put money on my I-pass about every few months...and ALWAYS ask if I am negative...or what my balance is. Therefor I don't understand how I can get this violation notice? Because I have an I-pass account I do not have to pay the FINES...just the amount of the missed tolls...which still adds up to $40 dollars. What I don't understand is why I am getting this violation notice 2yrs later AFTER the fact, and why it was never brought to my attention in the 2yrs? Like I said I pay about every other month and put about $20 on my I-pass. This just seems like a scam the I-Pass pulls on everyone for a lil extra cash!! I am not the only one that received this violation..I have about 5 other friends and family member that all received this notice all at the same time. Again...funny that it can go back up to 2yrs in missed tolls, and also funny that the bills happend to be sent out at TAX TIME!! haa Thats my biggest laugh. When you call the customer help line, they really have no answers, and it just pisses me off the more and more I talk to them! I just feel that this is not fair and someone has to have some answers. But if you do not pay...I know from experience...they will suspend your license. It will still be valid to drive with...but when it comes time to renew it, you will have to pay $100 to re-issue it. The I-pass got about $300 dollars off me a few yrs back. NEVER AGAIN! I am fed up with it beyond belief

I just need someones opinion. I have an IPass and I have had one for a couple years. I received a letter stating I owed money for missed tolls. I contacted them and was told to disregard the letters, when I add more money to my Ipass they would just deduct it from that. So i disregarded that letter. I received another letter stating I still owed money for missed tolls and it went from $3,500 to $12,000. I go up there to get this fixed because I dont understand why I'm still receiving notices. They tell me ok you have an Ipass so we'll take the fines away, but you have to pay a settlement fee of $800. Did they just make up something else to screw us out of more money. I got the Ipass so I wouldnt have to worry about fines and now they're adding on more fees just because they can. Is this right? I really think something needs to be done about this. I only owed a total of $60 in unpaid tolls, but I have to pay an extra $800 just so my license wont be suspended. I'm just so upset because I have an Ipass, but they still find a way to screw us out of more money. What does everyone think about this settlement fee. Have you ever heard of it?

I'm having the same exact problem now. I didn't believe the Tollway, so I forced them to print out all the digital photos they claimed they had. They did, and it looks like my girlfriend was missing tolls then trying to pay them online after getting to work. Well, every day she did this, she failed to pay a couple of them (either because she messed up or because the digital pics hadn't been logged under my lic plate number yet). So it took so long to get the info from the Tollway, in the meantime, they increased all the fines by $20 apiece. There's no way i could pay that amount, and I told them this on the phone and in written letters, but they ignored all my pleas.

I would be glad to pay the original amounts -- tolls totalling about $80. BUT now they've increased the amount to $50 more per violation (which is an increase of over 5,000%, by the way). There's no way I can pay this, and they keep ignoring my calls and letters. They've sent the $2000 amount to a COLLECTION AGENCY now.

I've kept a good record of everything, and there's no way I'm paying them more than the original amount for the tolls due. Even if I could, I would rather spend that money taking them to court...

... which is what i'll do if they try to suspend my license.

anybody out there have a similar situation? PLEASE POST to this (or other) discussion boards. If it comes to court later on, a list of plaintiffs can be generated for a class-action suit.

I have an I-Pass account and they billed me in November for charges in March. I didn't even know they exist because I had money available on my account from March through November. But, when it hit the system, I didn't have any money on the account because as they continue to say to me at the coporate office on Ogden "the system is playing catch up with you and it seems as though you will never catch up". There is no ryhme or reason just this is the way our system is. Deal with it and if you don't pay the tolls in 30 days the fines will be put on the charges. Guess what? I wasn't able to pay all of it in 30 days so on a $91.30 charge, I am having to pay $291.30. They are able to bill you from a toll accurring over 8 months ago, but you don't have over 30 days to pay it. Wow!

Your state governor needs to take some lessons from NJ's Governor, Chris Christie, who has appointed a panel of investigators to look into NJ's various "authorities" outside of state oversight, but they get tax dollars & do not have to be solvent/profitable, including the toll authority. He is putting a stop to sending millions of dollars blindly to these mafia-run organizations w/ no interest in the public good. Your state is ripping you off- I am not even a resident, but was fined for unknowingly violating tolls (as I drove around pot-holes in horrible traffic & construction) & failing to note the signs stating to pay on line if you miss the toll. all well & good to charge a fine, but $20/toll violated is excessive & unfair. NJ's toll system has massive problems as well, but at least they just send you a bill for the toll vs putiting the onus on you to know you'v violoated it. We won't even mention all the tolls ther I had to pay more than once because of the crappy roads & failing auto-toll coin collection systems ... You guys need to get mad & stand up to those bullies who are just lining their own pockets.
