Can anyone tell me a decent/reliable place to have a moon roof repaired in Northern,CA ?
Has anyone else experienced problems w/their moon roof?

My 2004 highlander's moonroof stuck open and we also disconnected the battery for a few minutes, reconnected it and it worked again! Easy to try before shelling out lots of cash for an unneeded repair.

Hi,
Did your moonroof move at all? Or was it acting like something was stuck in the tracks and was preventing the glass from sliding?

2005 Toyota Highlander moonroof stuck open, unable to get shut. Repair at Toyota dealership would cost $1495.00 to repair frayed cables and install a new motor. 50,000 miles and a car that is 4 years old. Closed moonroof for good for $300.00

It did move slightly, but retracted back. Sounded like there was something in the tracks.

Herb,

Mine was doing the same thing. We dropped the headliner and the moonroof. We found a plastic track that goes around a gear that's connected to the motor. Some of the keys from the track were broken and the track was slipping. We pulled the track forward and now the moon roof works, but until I replace the track, I can't open it more than halfway. It will still close and tilt open.

Herb: The same thing happened to a friend's car. How did you get the roof closed?

We dropped the headliner and found a cheap plastic strip with keys, turning by a motor, that drives the moonroof. Some of the plastic keys had broken and were stuck in the motor. We pulled off the motor, removed the plastic keys, and pulled the strip forward so the gear on the motor was not stalling on the broken part of the strip. Now I can open the moonroof 3/4 of the way, until I replace the plastic strip.

for what it's worth, same thing happened to my 2006 Highlander Hy. Twice! Dealer wanted $3k. I took it to a local shop to try to save money ($2k). That was in the spring. Now in Nov it's broken again.

What was wrong his 2005? My cable broke 11 months ago, had it repaired at cost like your brothers, and now 11 months later the same thing.

My sunroof broke on my 2005 Hylander 3 years ago and I've yet to fix it. What to do?

In my research i leaened there are no cables....but there are plastic tracks. Itbseems that Toyota loves telling people it is frayed or tangled cables.

My 05 Highlander is doing the same thing. Stuck open, I can here the motor working. It moves about 1/4 of the way closed then stops. I can open it all the way and move it forward again but it always stops in the same spot. Any way to manually close it without tearing everything apart?

How did you close the moonroof? Not really interested in paying $1495 to repair. If I can
just get it closed, I would be happy

My problem was that the sunroof would open but not close . Went to toyota and was told the motor was broken and said it would cost a crap ton of money to fix so i pulled it all apart and rebuilt the electric motor that didnt work so tried checking the cables for a short and thats when i found some or the copper foil on the back of the circuit board was burnt up solderd it together and it work now . Ik this is a old thread but im just sharing my experience
