When I drive my Corolla it's quite strange about 50 mph. The car turns into a "Walmart" type of basket. I have paid $500 to get it fixed but Toyota said it was within specifications. I pray there will be a fix and even get my $500 money back on this issue. Toyota says it's a new EPS steering that needs to be refined. But a problem. I saw on youtube that other had accidents with the new car.

thank you,
I love all of my Toyota's even if the 2009 Corolla.

My steering in my new Corolla will not drive front unless I hold the steering wheel. I am glad I am not the only one with the dangerous problem.

Well, My car starting pulling or turning when I changed lanes and making a motor buzzing sound. My steering started hurting my wrist. I was playing tug of war. It sounded like someone rewinding a VCR tape but louder. No errors on screen and dealer didn't know why it did it. It has less then 1000 miles.

Good luck. Just like the others they will buy it back for about 1000 less. Some others just put a switch to turn of power steering at speeds over 60 mph.
There are over 34 complaints at the nhtsa.gov . I suggest you add your name, too.

I brought my car to the dealership and they said there's nothing wrong with it. How can this get fixed? I did file a complaint at the nhtsa.gov .

What we did here is we put a simple switch in the turn off the EPS Power Steering. It's now fun again to drive. Turn off the EPS at about 50 MPH and you will see how better it drives.

Hey Pat,

How and who put the switch in? Did the dealership do this for you? Please email me at amg1099@yahoo.com

I have brought it to the dealership but to no avail. I emailed toyota corp but they said because there's no report of such kind, there's no fix for it at the moment. I need help. thanks.

Allen,

I have called Toyota months back and took 2 hours to explain my steering problem. A toyota Rep came by to inspect it. He said they have many reported. So get another person on the phone or even her Supervisor.

Good Luck.. see you and others in a class action lawsuit on this problem

Drive by wire is similar to fly by wire:RF issue

My neighbor is a retired Navy mechanic. They had an radio frequency interference issue. If they would use equipment in the 2.4 ghz range the "FBW" equipment would go nuts. Well we tried it with my Electric power steering sensor (near keys). We used a wireless card in a laptop and a freq generator. It caused the Toyota Sensor to reset or (reboot). We tried a standard blackberry and a cell phone which was putting out near 1.8 ghz. It caused the same issue. They need to shield the senor right under the drive column. It's built different then the Prius where the Prius sensor is near the floor.
Be carefull gang.

Hi. If they said they have many reported the problem, then what is Toyota doing to these problems? This is very worrisome and I don't think I made the right decision to buy this car. I haven't even made the first payment yet and yet I feel stuck. I am sooo sad about this and I don't know if I can even bring the car back and get another one. I mean I can trade it in but I can't imagine how much money I'd lose. ughhhhh

Someone almost lost their life 2 weeks ago in the car I was riding in. They reported it as a steering malfunction. Now I see you guys talking about it here.

Recall?

Hey, how did you know about someone almost loosing his life from the car you were riding in? Anyway, please have that someone report it to the toyota corporation. I have reported mine and took my car to the shop. A field rep from California tested my car and as usual, they claimed that there's nothing wrong with my car and that it's the design of the car that makes it more sensitive to the road, because the car, they claim responds to the crown of the road. I mean I seem to be getting used to it now but if there is a recall, and I hope that there is, I'll be the first one to be in the shop. But at the moment, the shop or toyota would claim that it's the design of the car, the EPS. Pls have that someone report it to the nhtsa.gov website. Good luck. At the moment, I'm tired of telling them what's wrong with the car.

Allen,

I have also reported mine months back (Jan) or such. They had no records of a steering problem. Well, I went to the nhtsa.gov and there are alot of folks that have reported it. I feel duped.

I wreck my New 2009 Toyota Corolla.Toyota finds nothing wrong with frame or supports. They said it was me that caused me to turn into the left lane.I said it was the car pulling.Austin police took pictures and show my steering wheel was "turned" as far as it could go.Before it happened I heard a buzzing between my legs on the steering wheel.I thought it was a garbage disposer turning on.
