To have an entry in the compact segment with a 4 speed auto is almost criminal. Honda is the only one with a 5 speed, and the other are 6 speed.
I am with you on this one. Why did they put a four speed in the Corolla? This is 2011! Are they just taking advantage of people because of the Corolla name?

The 4 speed is there because it's reliable and low cost repair. It still puts out up to a max of 38mpg so whats the problem. Do you want Toyota to raise the cost of cars when what they have works just fine. Besides I don't think anyone else can say that they sell the number one selling car in the world. The Corolla's sold units far exceed any other manufacturers single car sales. So obviously Toyota is doing something right. I don't think that the consumers shopping in the Corolla market are looking for performance. I think they tend to lean more towards comfort, MPG and reliability. Most of them are commuter cars, first cars or 3rd cars. Just saying.

Absolutely right!
It sure is nice to see someone out there posting objective and balanced remarks about any automaker.

You are right. If a buyer is looking for beauty, excitement, performance or outside the box engineering the Corolla is not on the list. For reliability and MPG's in a non hybrid, it is a top choice. That said, it now has some major competition from cars like the Cruze and the new Focus.

If it had a five speed I would buy it. The only other problem I see with this car is the hard plastic interior and the engine fires. But it is cheap.

OMG ! engine fires really, since when? I think you are referring to BYD cars that look like corollas. And thats nice to know that you would sacrifice yourself to buy a firebomb because it's cheap. What a piece of work. Or you could be referring to Ford maybe when you talk about engine fires.

I know! That interior has as much plastic as an 82 Chevette. Just don;t let it catch on fire because the melting plastic will be toxic.

Recall Date: 03/11/2002

Oh this one! sorry I wasn't digging up info from a decade ago.
Oh and I guess there was another recall for the same engine in 2006 but I didn't see anything recent. Oh and Toyota changed the engines around late 09.

Here's an article for you " Henry Ford issue's a recall on all 1921 made model T's for an apparent issue with termites and the possibility that they could eat the wooden wheels off of the car "

I found that right next to the Corolla recall! I guess you shouldn't buy a ford because termites will eat the wheels. I say this because that seems to be your mentality. Don't buy Corolla because of a decade old recall

No Einstein, March 11, 2011.

By the way, sarcasm is much more effective when you don’t giggle it out like a little schoolgirl. Ignorance is bliss. Your second dose is now served.
