Sue wrote: Sure enough, reception is fine until we press the rear defogger button. Maybe the antenna and the defogger shouldn't be sharing the same glass? I have not encountered this problem in my 08 LE. Maybe Toyota fixed the problem since you bought your 07? Couldn't hurt to get it looked at.

I recently purchased an '07 Camry Hybrid - love the car but hate the AM radio reception, as has been noted in these postings. I took it to the dealer who said "it works normally for this year model". I note the postings here are nearly a year old in many cases - has anyone found a successful solution to this nagging problem?

I just bought my 2008 (built in fall of 2007) Camry LE last week, and I have the same problem with the radio reception. Reception is poor... and goes completely dead with the rear defroster on. I'm taking it to the dealer next week...
I'll post an update..

Have a 07 Camry. Extremely poor reception both AM &FM. Dealer replaced radio and antenna signal amp, to no avail. Toyota messed up with putting antenna in glass, this dosen't work, they and the dealer say it's normal. There other models with external antennas have normal reception. Dealers do not acknowledge the problem and Toyota is mum about it. Looks to me like just another US car company.

Well I have one even better. I have a 2007 Camery SE. I have had 4 radios counting the factory installed one. The problem with mine is the display showes the station but no sound comes out not even when I play a CD. Go figure. The sound will come and go randomly. Hitting a bump or turning a corner will make it go off and on. Still trying to figure this one out.

Lunar wrote: My ASL does absolutely nothing. I have XM and the reception is also bad. By bad, I mean it breaks up way too often. When I play my ipod through the car stereo it sounds like crap. I'm very unimpressed with the whole radio system. Well, I have a 1997 Camry with the rw-antenna and my radio is horrible too. I have a cigarette lighter plug for my Ipod and I hear this terrible whine that has been getting worse weekly. Fools tale that it may be signs of the transmission going out, any ideas?

The rear-window defogger causing reception static is now a TSB (Aug-2008) requiring a rear window replacement. I've had my radio replaced, rear window replaced, and I still have static on the channel I listen to for my 30 min commute. I've driven 3 other cars in the same route, and no static... but this car... pop/hiss all thru drive on that route. The intersection traffic lights cause interference as I pass under them. WTF is THAT!

I'm so glad you posted this comment. What did they do to fix the volume knob issue? I have a 2008 Camry SE, 8 months old now (9k miles), and it just started doing the same thing with the stereo volume knob. I can also run it from the steering wheel. It's an intermittant problem; when I restart the car, the knob will work for a while. OR, if I push the Mode button on the steering wheel to scroll through AM, FM, CD, the volume knob will start working again for awhile. I'd like to know how yours got fixed, so I can maybe "coach" the dealership, or at least stand my ground if they give me any trouble. KJones wrote: I thought I was being a little "OCD" with issues I've been experiencing since I bought my 2007 Camry LE 3 weeks ago. My radio reception is horrible, I have static in the background on a repetitive basis. Also, at times when I attempt to lower or raise the volume of the radio, the volume knob does not work. I will turn the knob all the way up or down and nothing happens. When it does work you see the number go up or down. It might work several times in a row and then the next time it will not. I have to use the volume control on the steering wheel when the other one doesn't work. Also, I saw a lot of reviews today talking about the transmission issues and guess what, I'm having the same problems. When I apply my brakes, it seems to take it a while to accelerate again and when I go down hills, it seems to automatically slow down or have a hard time shifting gears. Now that I know other people are experiencing the same issues, I will be taking my car into the the dealership ASAP. Thanks for all of your input, I think we all need to know what everyone else is experiencing. KJones

No fix for this problem, just like the dangerous hesitation/downshifting problem that becomes normal when the now 4 tsb's fail to fix this problem. Toyota moving forward!!!!!!!!

Material Girl, this has just begun happening to me too! My 2008 Camtry Hybrid is 9 months old, 6K miles, and not the volume control no longer works. Like you, I can operate it from the steering wheel, but I cannot get the know to work, not even after restarting the car. I will try your "mode" scroll suggestion. If anyone has had this problem successfully fixed, please post. MaterialGirl wrote: I'm so glad you posted this comment. What did they do to fix the volume knob issue? I am having problems with the CD player that came witht my 2007 toyota camry. It continues to read the disk, then after about 5 minutes tells me that there is and Error 1. I have just finished a cleaning of the CD player, but still nothing. Any advice..? Is it still under warranty? Not sure what to do.

Like so many of you, I also have a 2007 Camry Hybrid. My radio reception is deplorable. Dealer replaced the radio 3 months after purchase, problem persisted. Dealer has checked antenna and I was told everything was normal. They do not want to acknowledge that there is a problem. They do not want to pay for any remedy to the issue. I was glad to find that my vehicle was not a lone lemon, but merely one of probably thousands of Camry owners from 2007 to present that are unable to listen to clear radio programming in a supposed quality vehicle. Is there anyone out there that has received any relief from Toyota?

All of a sudden (in the middle of a 580 mile roadtrip) the radio in my 2008 Camry stopped sending any sound to any speaker but the display continued. I pulled off the road, called the dealership and stopped at Radio Shack to see what my options might be (basically no options). When I turned the car back on, the radio came back on but crackled badly through the rear speakers. When I turned the radio off, the music stopped, the display went blank but the crackling continued. Dealership tells me these are not Toyota radios - they're a vendor. They did replace it. And did not seem surprised about it at all although they said they'd not seen my particular problem. Reception always was (and still is) pretty bad but I thought it was my imagination. Dear Toyota, these new Camry's are certainly not the quality they used to be.
