Lost 7000.00 at down east toyota in brewer main trading my 2007 camry back in just 10 days of owning it.
The dangerous hesitation/downshifting is the reason I traded it back in. I noticed this the second day of owning it. with it being sunday I could not call untill monday.
I called monday and told them of problems, they told me to drive for a week so car can learn driving habits so I did.
What I should have done was bring it right back in and stop payment on check.
Dealers so protected they can do as they want not much consumer can do.
The day i traded it back in the salesman said it funny because the saturday we purchased owr camry he sold three and two have come back.
Anyone else out there get screwed by det???
#2 Feb 4, 2008
Go to autotrader.com and see how many of the 08 camrys traded back in with under 1000 miles??? The 08 must have the same hesitation/downshifting problem as the 07 camry????
No matter what reason is, the consumer is finding out the hard way what toyota value is. I know I did!!!!!

If you are thinking of buying the 07 08 camry do your self a favor and google 07 camry transmission problems. go to 2007 toyota camry reviews & ratings- user reviews-yahoo autos.
This is a dangerous problem that toyota is aware of. after the first tsb does not work they install the second tsb and when this does not work, people are reporting on line that in some cases they replace the transmission and when this does not fix this problem this problem becomes "normal" ?????
like toyotas oil sludge problem toyota will not fix a problem untill a class actoin suite!!
I only had my 07 camry 10 days, lost 7000.00 trading it back in at down east toyota. what a deal.

I was seriously thinking of getting a rav4 from Downeast Toyota. Thanks to your information, I guess I will not trade with them. I also have a friend that traded with them and they tried to pull the wool over her eyes too. Told her it was normal for water to get into her trunk. Guess I will look for another type of vechile and another dealership

I hear there is a THIRD tsb that just came out for the 07 08 camrys DANGEROUS hesitation/downshifting problem.
Anyone know if this fixes this dangerous problem that becomes normal when the last TWO tsb's fail to fix this "normal" problem????
I guess kevin kelly you are wrong!! There is a dangerous problem, with still no fix.
Toyota moving forward??????????
#6 Sep 18, 2008
Now the 4th tsb is out for the hesitation/downshifting, problem ,with the 07 08 and now 09, 4 and 6 cly camry. that becomes normal when the first three fail to fix this dangerous problem.

I bought a 2006 Solara from Downeast Toyota in November of 2007, with tax the price came to $17,000. I took it back today November 21, 2008 and asked how much I would get for a trade in. I hope whoever is reading this is sitting down because they told me my car is now only worth $6800. How is that legal? And, how can they feel good about themselves taking advantage of their customers like that. If anyone out there knows of any laws against this way of doing business please post them. I will be on the look out. Shame on you Downeast Toyota.

Sounds just like det, when purchasing a car from det its the best car on the lot, try trading that same car in days later and it is not worth anything.
Kevin kellys answer to this when it happend to me was "he did not hold a gun to my head to buy a 07 camry and to trade it back in" NICE ANSWER !!
No laws to protect the consumer at this time as kevin told me there is nothing I can do about loosing 7000.00 trading the 07 camry back in 10 days later even though toyota admitted the dangerous hesitation problem to me and told me no fix at this time.6-11-07
Now according to the internet 2 more tsb's for this problem are out and still this problem becomes normal when the TWO new tsb's fail to fix the dangerous hesitation problem.
Nothing the consumer can do except do research.
learn before you purchase something that is this expensive. because once you drive it off the lot its yours!! you hate it or have problems with it the only thing you can do is trade it back in and get sc---ed. the dealers know if you hate a car or having problems with itand are going to trade it back in they got ya.
In my case even though toyota admitted a nonfixable dangerous problem to me I still lost 7000.00 because of a dangerous problem with no fix.

Go to www.autotrader.com look to see how many 07 08 09 camrys have been traded back in with less than 5000 miles. must be a reason?? and its not because of the wounderful trade in value you get!!!
Google toyota oil sludge problem.
JJust wished someone told me about this before I got scr---d.
Thank-you down east toyota.

I wanted to let you all know that I have bought 4 vehicles & traded in 3 to DET. So far I have not had a problem. I also do all my service there as well and have found the service people to be more than willing to work with any problems that have come up. Maybe this guy with the Camry was being unreasonable. I have found that there are usually 2 sides to every story. It also makes me wonder about a person that is so negative all they have to do in life is speak about a bad experience. As far as the person that was trading in their vehicle I understand from research that what your car might be worth has a lot of factors involved. She complains about what her trade is worth but doesn't mention what kind of condition that her vehicle was in. Again there are always 2 sides to every story.

Purchased a 2007 camry june 2nd 2007.
Called det service dept june 4th with complaints of dangerous hesitation/downshifting problem.
Was told to drive for a week so car could learn driving habits. I did.
Called det service dept june 11th with same complaints. This time told truth, Toyota has no fix for this problem at this time, but not to worry because like the v6 camry they had to pull all off lot for transmission problems, when and if toyota comes up with a fix they will let you know.
Traded the camry back in at det for same (old) car I traded 10 days earlier. lost 7000.00 because I was told no fix for this problem.
Don (salesman) told us the saturday we purchased the camry that he had sold three of them and that two have come back.
At paper signing tracy asked us why we were trading the camry back in, we told her of the dangerous hesitation/dpwnshifting problem. she told us she did hear of this problem.
Called det several times to speak with someone about loosing 7000.00 because of a problem with no fix. even called ed darlings line once left message, no call back.
In september kevin kelly called me back, I asked why I lost 7000.00 because of problem with no fix? He told me he was not aware of this problem.
When I told him even toyota admitted to this problem with alot of complaints. kevin told me toyota would never tell me this and even if they did there is nothing I could do about loosing all that money because he did not hold a gun to my head to buy the camry or to trade it back in. and that toyota would not help me.
Asked kevin about the tsb that was out for this problem? I told him according to the consumers on the net that tha tsb did not work. He told me that the tsb does work and who told me it did not work? Which is funny because earlier in the conversation he NEVER heard of this problem or complaint.
As of today atleast two more tsb's out for this problem that becomes normal when the three tsb's fail to fix this dangerous problem. and according to the net it's not just the 07 it is the 08 and 09.
Google 07 camry transmission problems.
Have to wounder how you can loose 7000.00 in 10 days because of a problem with no fix?????
I personally would not feel right doing this to a customer!!!

I was just at DET with ny son we were set to buy the rock warrior My son asked the salesman [who said he had worked selling cars for 30 years]IF Tthe truck had a locking rear end. He said he did not know and he would ask .He got up and shortly
returned saying yes it did My son said electric or manual ? He said electric I believe We put a deposit on the truck When i called to get an explaination the manager of the salesmen said Dont buy the truck My later contact with Kevin Kelly
was no help He said SORRY to me they show no respect for people who are spending a large anount to share in the car owning experience inwhat becomes an important relationship with the Dealership

The 07 camry now has atleast THREE tsb's for the dangerous hesitation/downshifting problem. This problem somehow becomes "NORMAL" when the tsb's fail to fix the problem???
In june 07 I traded my 2007 camry back in to det after 10 days because of the dangerous hesitation problem, lost almost 7000.00 trading back. How is this right? How do the dealers get away with this?
Toyota can make a car with many unfixable problems sell this car knowing of these problems and some how get away with it by saying the problem is normal??
Google 07 camry transmission problems. try to find the ya hoo site, this site has many many complaints of this problem, but some how dissapeared??
One site that has not vanished is toyota oil sludge just google toyota oil sludge see how many of toyota's customers got blaimed for this problem untill the class action suite.
Hope that the hesitation/downshifting problem someday fixes toyota like the oil sludge problem.
I post this because I wish I would have known of the 07 08 09 camry 4 cly hesitation/downshifting problem. because I never would have bought the 2007 camry I did. If I help one person from going through what I did than yes kevin its all worth it.

I know you posted this in April and it's now Aug, but I think you meant locking front hubs. But then you called to get an explanation? Of what?

Google the 09 toyota venza transmission problems.
Toyota still making junk!!!!
Its nice of toyota to make a car with transmission problems call that problem normal and get away with it.
I guess kevin kelly you are still wrong it was not just my 07 camry with this dangerous problem, its many many others with the same problem two years later. I guess even though I lost 7000.00 because of this problem with now atleast three tsb's for this problem that becomes "normal" when toyota can not blame, convince, or what ever that this problem is normal.I am one of the lucky ones to have got my old car back. HIDE any trades lately????I would be sooooo proud to be selling junk like this KNOWING of a problem!!!!

You are right kevin I should have known better to have purchased another car after the 1993 lumina with the stalling problems you never fixed!! rember the one with the black tape over the abs light?? The one edward darling said since they could not fix it he would find me another car, which he never did.
ASk steve (kaz) If he rembers having me clean the car wash and what we did with all that dirty water??? under curleys old bay. I still have the recpt from grandville lumber for the "pump" Now that's going GREEN.

I had one that the air conditioning failed three times, the transmission blew a gasket of some kind, the engine started leaking oil...oh wait that was my PLYMOUTH VOYAGER.
It was a head gasket that went and the front end shimmied after just 50,000 miles....oh wait that was my PONTIAC SUNBIRD....
I remember now, air coniditoning, starter, front end, oil leak....na...that was my DODGE CARAVAN.
It was the oil line leak, transmission line leak..naw that was my CHEVY MALIBU.
Oh wait the Toyota Camry that has had, er, it had several oil changes....and tire rotations. And once it had a flat tire....so yep...lessor quality is right.
I guess it depends on what you buy and what doesn't fall apart.
I personally haven't been upset with any of the cars listed above as I realize that they are all designed to fall apart at some time. If it lasted forever than people would never buy a new car. It's called planned obsolescence.

I actually had a Sales Rep turn his back and walk away from me at Downeast Toyota. All because I said I was going to shop other dealerships. He literally didn't acknowledge my existance as I was asking him if he was serious. They actaully refused to give me a price or and appraisal on my trade.
I could not imaging treating a customer so rudely. If you are looking to buy toyota, it might be worth the drive to Augusta.

The 07 camry I purchased two years ago now lives in maryland,Title #39955293. 4 owners with 37000 miles?? You have to ask yourself why so many owners such little miles?? Maybe its the wounderful trade in value you get from dealers? YA rigth!
If you are going to purchase a toyota its worth the $39.99 to purchase carfax. If you do go on internet get atleast 3 or 4 toyota camry vin #'s put them each in carfax to see how many owners within such little miles ask yourself why?
Google 07 camry transmission problems.
Google 07 camry radio problems
Google 07 camry paint problems
Google toyota oil sludge problem
Google toyota venza transmission problems
And if that is not enough call a toyota service dept b 4 you buy the camry ask them of the Hesitaion problem tell them you have had the now three tsb's done and problem still there. and see what they tell you.
When they say its normal ask them why there are three tsb's for this problem and their answer will make your mind for you.
Good luck! stay away from toyota till they fix this normal?? problem!!!

I have been dealing with Downeast Toyota for several years. In fact I have bought and purchased and traded 3 vehicles with them. It sounds to me like there are a few people that didn't do their research before purchase but just made a fast decision and now want to blame other for their lack of knowledge on what they were purchasing. I have never purchased a vehicle from them and not been able to trade back and come out ok. I would like to see you purchase a house move in for a few days and if you don't like it or something breaks gee I want my money back. If you are upset with the fact that Toyota did something wrong in manufacturing then take it up with Toyota and not the Dealership!
