Thank you for the tips. I changed the filter and then got the new relay and it's like a new A/C unit in the car. I owe someone a beer.

I have a 2003 Camry with 60K. The AC light started flashing a month ago. I took it to a couple of shops and they said they had to open the AC and test the entire system. It may be the compressor!Over $1000.
I changed the Cabin filter,$14 (behind the glove compartment)5 minutes, bought a AC clutch Relay from Advanced Auto Parts,$15.00 and replaced Mag CL Relay, part number 90987-02022 with the one I bought from Advance Auto parts. The relay is located in the fuse box next to the battery and it is off white in 2004 Camry. Done. Works like new. Do not get ripped off by toyota dealers and greedy shops.

I checked the one in my car it is 90987-02028, so Im afraid the one i just would not work. Alright people, I finally did it! First I replaced the cabin filter behind the glove department, too see if that was the only problem, it didn't solve my ac flashing light, but it needed a new one anyways, it was very dirty! I replaced the old ac relay part # 90987-02022 it's a dark white color with the new relay part # 90987-02028, very easy! I bought the new part at a local toyota dealership for about $65. I first disconnected both the - and + batteries, then I pulled out the old relay with a plyer and replaced with the new relay, reconnect both the - and + batteries and my AC is now finally working. I couldn't believe how simple it was, took me like 2 minutes. Hope this helps!!! and good luck
I did the same thing except only diconnected the - terminal and now my engine starts but then stalls. Any ideas?

I had the same exact problem with my 03 Celica. A/C was blowing hot air when it had been ice cold the day before and the A/C light was flashing. I got on this forum and immediately checked the mag clutch relay. Sure enough that was the problem. Air is blowing ice cold again. Researching on the i-net sure beats getting ripped by a dealership or a mechanic.

Ya i have a question, i have a 96 Camry 78k, and my ac has been working properly until yesterday while the car was on i unplugged the Compressor wire just to see if the fan would work or not(stupid thought right?) but when i plugged back the wire, and put on my ac it works for about 4 or 5 seconds and suddenly starts blinking and blowing hot air. Each time i put on the AC this is what happens, and i noticed my RPM goes a lot more higher than usually within the interval. My problem is, my Fuses and relays are intact, my compressor is good. so what could i do to continue enjoying my Car?

I have read these post and also replaced my magnetic clutch relay due to AC light blinking in my 2002 Lexus es300. Works perfectly and I got the part at a junk yard and it barely cost me a dime.

Having the same problem with the AC light flashing but a fuse htr 10amp blows out. Would the filter or relay replacement help or is there something more?

Thanks from AUSTRALIA.

Thanks a lot guys. Had the blinking light issue and turned out to be the famous faulty MG CLT issue. Thanks for the information submitted in this thread. Call Toyota dealers and the replacement part (relay part #90987-02028) is around AU$ 90.00 so I called the local wrecker and they gave me the 3 used relays (#90987-02022) but from later models (2005-2007 I guess) for AU$20.00. All good now.

PS: I called Toyota dealer to get it freely replaced as there was a Toyota bulletin about it and was covered under first 36 warranty but they were not able to do it for free. Then they checked my VIN number and said there is a free outstanding fix for this car (headlight dimmer switch). So please give your Toyota dealer a call and check first if you are able to get it done for free.

My 2003 Camry just displayed flashing lights. Was told after 2 months of troubleshooting that the Compressor was shot to pieces. Freon etc pressure was good. Now the Compressor belt starts to choke and stall and the car moans and groans with shocking sounds as the air con is started.

I had the same problem. I checked the fuses and they checked okay. I took out the relay marked MG CLT (white one) under the hood and checked it and it was bad. I have ordered a replacement, but tapped it a few times on a table and put it back in until the new one arrived. and now works fine. I'm still going to replace the relay, but it may be a good test for someone.
