I too have a 2003 4 cyl Camry with the Intake Manifold rattle. And yes, my dealer quoted me $500.00 parts and labor. My vehicle now has 77K miles on it. I have not called Toyota Customer Service. I will call on Tuesday.

Does anyone have a copy or know where I can find Warranty Policy Bulletin - POL0406?

Guess what people, the camry is not the only Toyota car with an intake problem. As of 2008 the 2005 corollas also have this problem and I am only at 42,000. The warranty will cover the replacement thank goodness but I am disgusted with Toyota. It used to be a good car. We still have a 1983 pickup truck. Also had a 1986 corolla until 2005. Dealer trying to tell me that it is the ethanol in the fuel - that the gas stations sometimes put more than the 10% they are supposed to. Does this sound like a snow-job?

Just got off of the phone with Toyota Customer Service. In short, they were absolutely no help! The best he could offer for my 2003 Camry w/77K miles was a 1 year warranty on a new intake manifold purchsed through a Toyota dealer (over $500). Advised there was no recall and no way to tell me how many owners complained of this issue. I am thouroughly disgusted. no more Toyota products for this family!

My wife has a 2003 Toyota Camry. It has 53,000 gentle miles on it, bought slightly less than 5 yrs ago, and has always been dealer maintained (at great expense). It now sounds like an old sewing machine. Same problem you people discuss: Intake Manifold.

Tha Akron, OH dealer who sold us the car, Ganley Toyota, wants $627.48 to replace the Intake manifold. They and Toyota Corporate say this is not part of the "engine", so it is not covered under 60,000 or 5 yr warranty.
This stinks. I will tell everyone I know, never buy from Ganley and never buy another Toyota.

If anyone wants to discuss this issue with me, email: [email protected]

Thank you.

Does anyone know about what mileage that the intake manifold noise starts. I have not been able to get that from this forum. I know it can vary a lot.
Is Lee Giobbie saying that at 80K miles he has had this intake problem fixed three times or just other problems?
__________
My wife's 2003 Toyota camry started the vibrating noise at around 49,000 miles, I think. Neither the dealer or Toyota Corporate wants to fix it under warranty. See my post on the website.

I have a similar problem and the dealer wanted to charge me $700+ to replace the intake manifold. I called Toyota customer relation and they checked and told me this is covered under the 5 yr/60000 powertrain warranty (ONLY for a 2003 model). A notice was sent to all dealerships but most of them are not aware of it. I took the info. the Toyota customer relation gave me, went back to the dealership and told the service mgr. They called Toyota to verify and replaced the intake manifold for me free.
__________

I have the exact same problem on my wife's 2003 Camry. However, both the dealer and Toyota deny it is part of the "engine" and won't cover it. I wish I could get more info from you on how I can get them to repair the vibration. I understand from Toyota that the "service bulletin" from Toyota is only the repair instructions and not an indication the problem is warranted under the 60,000 mile/5yr warranty.

I HAVE AN 02 CAMRY & IT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. MY REPAIR TECHNICIAN HAS TOLD ME THAT IF AFFECTS 02 TO 04 & ONLY TOYOTA CAN REPAIR THE PROBLEM. TOYOTA HAS A NEW INTAKE MANIFOLD THAT IS SUPPOSED TO FIX THE NOISE. MY PROBLEM IS I DO NOT TRUST TOYOTA ANYMORE.

Thank you to all for your postings on this topic. I have an '03 Camry with 74K that was sounding terrible. I followed the advice of others and purchased the intake manifold from Toyota of Dallas (checked with my dealer first and I was out of the warranty coverage). I installed the manifold this weekend and the car runs great. A word of caution for those not prepared for an in-depth procedure. I spent ~5 hours from start to finish, and had to run to the auto parts store to buy a socket wrench with a smaller head to get one of the bolts off the old manifold. In the end, I saved $400 by doing this myself; well worth it. The only issue I'm having now is that the car idles around 500 RPM (should be around 1000 RPM). Anyone have tips on getting that adjusted?

Disregard my comment about the idle. It corrected itself after a little bit of highway driving. Car runs like a charm now!

Contacted Toyota Customer Service, and the rep tried to act like she knew nothing about it. Lie! Toyota doesn't want to fix it, so my next car is a Honda.
Took the car in still under warranty and they said the sound was normal. Then it got worse after the drive train warranty expired.
Toyota doesn't pay book rate to the dealer for warranty work, and none of the mechanics want to do it as it takes 3 hours to do and they don't make a large profit.

03 Toyota Camry 2.4 v.v.t.i. engine,,which I think stands for -- very variable tone from intake manifold..Its a screw up that should have never left the drawing table. Then to patch it up-- Toyota put a steel girdle around it with Bob Villa packing foam inside to dampen the hellish noise. Car runs fine with radio on loud for now. Toyota dealer intown says theres no recall on this.

Can't believe all the posts about the Intake Manifold noise problem. My 2003Camry, 70,000miles, developed problem few months ago. Dealer says $650 to replace. Glad to check here for posts. Will explore my options. Thanks.

I'd be interested to know if any of you have been able to use the document below and achieve success and replacement of Intake Manifold at no charge. It would be helpful to know of some success stories here. Thanks again!

I also have the 2003 Toyota, and the dealer told me over the phone that there are two types of intake manifolds and an exhaust intake manifold? What is the correct one for the car.
Thanks for a speedy answer.

I have a 2003 camry with 94,000 miles. It makes a tapping noise, is this due the intake manifold?
