Toyota has issued a service bulletin that corrects this problem, under the hood near the battery locate the fuse/relay block and remove the cover, look inside the cover to identify the "A/C magnetic clutch relay" remove it and check the part number imprinted on it, the defective relay will have the part number 90987-02022, the relay should be replaced with the part number 90987-02028.

thanks! it worked great. easy to do it yourself, although it was tough pulling the old part out, had to use a screwdriver for leverage.

went to the local toyota parts dept. and they pulled up 90987-02028 by default.

plugged it in and it worked perfectly!

Oh details:

2002 Camry 4-cylinder

Japan-manufactured.

Symptoms: blinking ac light where it was intermittent at first, but then was constant and the ac stopped working completely.

Better to try this $72 part than a full-on a/c repair which would have cost hundreds.

Thank you all for the advise--we pulled out the relay and put it back....the a/c worked....went to Toyota parts and bought the new one for about $85.

What a huge savings...I am sure if I brought the car orinally to a mechanic....he would have invented a whole expensive problem with the a/c.

THANKS!!!!!!!

Thank you Thank you Thank you!

I found this forum searching the blinking A/C light for my friend's 2002 Camry. Swapped the clutch and horn relays and the A/C is working like new. After swapping them the horn decided not to work anymore so I pulled the newly swapped horn relay, smacked it on the ground a few times and reinserted and the horn works too :)

Thanks again for the help

Had the same problem with 2003 Camry. A/C light flashing and no cold air.

The Mag clutch relay was not working. Took it and threw it against plywood few times. Worked fine again! Saved some 60 bucks!

I had the same problem (2002 Camry LE), what I did-I just use 1999 Camry's relay, it will cost you $10

i had the same problem with the ac light blinking. After reading a couple of forums like this one, i decided to go with the most popular suggested solution.

I took out the 90987-02022 relay and replaced it with the 90987-02028. I bought it from O'rielly's and it cost $45. It was real easy to change and the ac works perfectly

thanks for saving me a couple of bucks

My a/c light is blinking, checke the pressure on the low side and it was high. (no psi value my gauge showed it in the red) So I unplugged the clutch connector on my compressor and applied 12v. Clutch engaged but almost stalled the car out. Is this a bad compressor or relay.

I have a 2004 Camry. Same problem as above; Blinking AC light and hot air from the system. My wife just brought the car o the dealer. It works now after replacing the relay.

The only problem is that they installed the old P/N relay (90987-02022). Well, at least it's working again.

The cost for the relay was 2,500 pesos ($53)

At least you have an honest dealer, Ron. He could have banged you for a new compressor and you would never have known.

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Gemini

If you're currently keeping something secret it will really start to prey on your mind today and you'll worry about blurting it out at the wrong moment. It's one of those days in which you're absent-minded and completely wrapped up in your own thoughts. As a result, it will be hard to concentrate on anything else and this won't go down well in certain quarters.
