i have a 2011 white camry and having the same issue! they are sending a factory rep to look at my car this tuesday. I have paint chipping and rust on the rim of the hood by the wipers. The dealership told me I must have chipped it off during the winter while chipping away ice...seriously? I told them I keep my car in the garage and asked why new spots are developing. the guy just stared at me with no response.
Make sure you don't let up on them Kate. Unfortunately, NY's lemon law doesn't apply to cosmetic issues, so you're gonna have to be an annoying nag. Document EVERYTHING. It'll come in very handy in Small Claims Court.

I bought my toyota in flagstaff, az in january 2011. Within two weeks I had numerous paint chips all over my super white yaris and its windows. went to the dealership, toyota international, bbb and my insurance company without result. Did all this by march 2011. It its now june 2011 and my car looks like a dalmatian.

What's a consumer to do? I agree with the person who said we should start a class action suit!!!

I'd probably park it outside the dealership where everybody can see it. Start with Saturday and Sunday.

Thanks, Liner. And in the meantime, what is everyone else on this forum going to be doing? I feel, however, that this is just not good enough. Toyota NEEDS US TO SUE them. Let the lawyers/courts deal with this.

I know, I know... What lawyers...? What courts...? I can hope, can't I?

Otherwise, all of us should be parked outside our local dealers, not just me. All of us!

Just be aware that something got on your car either before or after you got it. That may affect it permanently, depending on how well the painter prepares the surface.(assuming you get it repainted)

I have a 2011 Camry Hybrid. Paint is coming off around my wheel well on the rear driver side. I know it is just going to go back further. Don't tell me this is from rocks as I might agree if it was on the passenger side closer to the birm of the road. My car is in the garage when it is not in use. Going to call my dealer on Monday to see what they have to tell me about this issue.

I posted a couple of entries before you in June 2011.

By all means, go to the dealer and post your findings here and on pissedoffconsumer.com . Then, contact Toyota International for your area (you'll find the number in your maintenance or warranty manual), and the BBB (Better Business Bureau) in that order. You should contact Toyota first.

Just do not be surprised when they send you a letter stating that Toyota's warranty clearly states that it does not cover paint jobs, that Toyota followed the legal paint criteria, that Toyota will gladly give you a can of free paint (which will chip off, too), etc.

I know if the BBB gets enough complaints, they can act. So far, I am the only person to complain to them, and I've seen numerous reports on numerous websites dating back to year 1999. Please be the next one to file with them. You can do it online with little effort. They will write you back after they contract Toyota International and say there there's nothing they can do because they only have two complaints, me and you. But after you, if others will follow, the BBB will become empowered. Its up to the consumer to have our voices count by contacting any and all agencies that represent us. I hope you and others will follow me to the BBB!

Good luck on Monday!!!

Well, it's possible. See if it gets worse. If it does, then go after Toyota.

I just bought a 2011 camrey and noticed paint peeling. They repairedn it or should I say just sprayed and it was done in 5 minutes. The other day my shopping cart brusbed agaisnt it and the paint came right off. I think I have a factory defect. The peeled paint is so thin and and goes straight to surface . There is no buffing out this .What can i do?

Karen, you have a brand new car. The dealer HAS to fix this and you HAVE to demand they do it correctly. Get the Toyota Zone Office(or whatever they call it) involved.

liner,

I posted on 6-12-11 twice, one of them saying my car was two weeks old when I noticed chipping, and the other in response to you telling me to pickett my Toyota dealer. I also posted on 7-16-11 with a lot of followup info as to what I think is the proper procedure to get Toyota to pay for the bad paint jobs and windows.

Going back to Toyota expecting them to do anything about their cheap paint or windows is futile because they are going to give us lip-service and then send a letter offering a free can of paint. The paint and window chippings are not covered as stated in the warranty we sign upon purchase.

Please come back with ideas that have teeth. Thank you!

P.S. Your responses seem to be poking fun @ our misfortune. If you're not, I beg your pardon!

I am NOT poking fun at anybody. The only way you're going to get the dealer to do anything is to make yourself a royal pain in the azz to him. The car has bad primer on it and has to be stripped down to bare metal.

I am so disappointed with my purchase I want to file a class action law suit. I bought a white 2011 Toyota camry SE six months ago and I care for it so much yet the whole front part of the car has like a 100 paint chips. My passenger door and sunroof rattles. My a/c has a foul smell. My passenger seat vibrates. The sound system sucks bad, even with the upgrade. Im so pissed right now. The seams that hold the floor carpet together has started to come undone. I fuckin hate this Toyota! Last Toyota my family will ever buy! They just lost a lifetime Toyota owner.

Also my grille and rear deck lid were repainted due to being a different shade of white. My grille is now falling off and the dealer says it's normal. I have so many issues with this car I think I'm gonna trade it in and buy American. I'm gonna try to see if the local news might be interested in doing a special report on the issues, and see if others like me are out there that are also feed up with this shit!

I'm down for a class action suit! Contact your local Better Business Bureau (BBB) so we can get enough complaints to get this ball rolling.

Sounds to me like your car was in an accident or damaged before you bought it. Does your state have some kind of lemon law?
