Just got back from Sturgis and Star motorcycles had a trailer there with an '09 vmax. Got to sit on it and ask some questions. It is beefy as hell. Rinder position is a lot like a Honda transalp or something along those lines

The new V Max is O.K.
I'm not sure what focus groups they were listening to. They should have really looked at what the owners of the current bikes do to them. Maybe more accurately paid attention to them.
The bike should have been chain drive, many more wheel choices, gearing options, plus easier to stretch.
BIGGEST problem,$19,000 !!!!!! Get serious.
Now I know there will be the people that buy them for the look at me factor, but I thought only Harley charged stupid money for a motorcycle. I don't want to hear about the technology in the new one over the old, sportbikes have been using the same technology for a while. Yamaha also use's it in the R1 and R6, so it is not a dedicated technology.
Good looking bike, true to it's heritage, just more drag strip please.
