Auto Doctor response to 68 year old grandmother: At your age you should consider surrendering your license and taking public transportation. Or hire a chauffer.

That's called "torque lock". Turn the steering wheel in one direction or the other while turning the key. Next time you park, don't touch the wheel while turning the key off.
You're welcome.

Dear Doctor,
My 1997 Ford econoline e250 (V6 4.2 L) stalled easily under either in one of the following conditions or in the combination of them all:
1) during the first half hour after start (either Winter or Summer)
2) turning the wheels all the way either left or right
3) reversing
4) stopping at red lights while in drive gear (very rough idle)
Would you please suggsest some solutions to the issue(s) that I have with my van? Thank you very much in advance

I wrecked my 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan and have found a 2000 for cheap that has a bad motor and transmission. Is there any way you could put the motor and transmission out of the 2002 into the 2000 without too much of a headache with the wiring, computer, motor mounts, etc.? Thanks.

As long as it's the same chassis generation, it'll probably fit. I would use the basic engine and transmission out of yours and keep the wiring, computer etc. from the 2000. Easier that way.

Dear Doctor,
My 150,000 Km (after engine rebuiding) 1997 Ford Econoline E250 V6 4.2L engine would stall in the following conditions regardless of the ambient temperature:
1)At red lights
2)When reversing or/and turning the wheels tight
It has been tuned-up by changing all spark plugs, wires, but the issue still persists. What are probably the causes and how to correct them?
Thank you

The speedometer, fuel gages go up and down and radio on and off when driving--like I'm about to lose power. New battery and alternator recently. What could it be?

My girlfriend has a 1999 Subaru Forester. When turning the steering wheel sharply (either direction) there is a loud pop, you can feel it while sitting in the car. Also, you can see the wheel (the one the tire mounts on) jerk. Both front tires/wheels do this. The driver's side CV joint has been replaced, as well as the sway bar bushings. Any ideas?

It's impossible to know what the problem is without reading the code from the check eng light. Some auto parts stores will read the code for free.
