Has anyone had trouble with the handling of their 2006 Outback? The back wheels feeling like they are going in a different direction, especially on slippery or slushy road conditions. Are there updated specs for the alignment of the back wheels and does everyones original tires wear out after 15-25,000 miles?

JayMar, Best to go to the dealership and have the alignment checked. I have end of 2006 Outback that handles fine on the ice and snow, but my parent 05 Outback had some very serious handling issues that only show up on ice and slush. It's a long story, so I'll try to keep it short.

Car: early 2005 Outback 2.5i. Symptom: back end gets loose on ice and slush. Car spun out winter of 2005 on very icy conditions. Summer 06, rear tires were wearing unevenly so had Tires Plus in MN installed new tires and performed re-alignment.

Thought that solved the problem (very mild winter in MN 06-07), but fast forward to November 2007. Rear tires again wearing unevenly, again Tires Plus performs re-alignment. Dec. 2007 I got to experience it first hand, car was still very unsettled. On family trip to northern MN after x-mas, I had to pull off interstate and drive back roads because the car was so unstable above 25mph. Took to Subaru dealer in Duluth, MN. They stated that indeed Subaru had updated the rear end alignment specs. and that from the documentation, Tires Plus was NOT using the correct specs! Dealer performed re-alignment and that solved the problem. Amazing. Never would have guessed alignment could play so heavily in how the car handled in snow and ice.
