My 03 Baja has never gotten the advertised 27 MPG either. Engine light started coming on at about 65000 - still under warranty but they couldn't keep it out.

I purchased an aftermarket K&N air filter and built a new air intake setup out of 4" exhaust pipe, getting rid of the rerticting factory air box.

With the engine being able to breath - the light has never come back on, and I picked up a few more noticable horspower. I am now getting 26 MPG at 70MPH and 24 in town.
My Baja is a standard trans. I am very dissapointed in the performance and it cruizes at extremely high RPMs even though it is geared high on the low end. Should have held out for an automatic I guess.
