2005 Baja Turbo

We have (new to us this year) 2005 Baja. It currently has 63,000 miles on it (49K when we bought it)

This past week the battery completely died on us and for a couple of days we jump started it. Just before we replaced the battery the "Check Engine" light came on, shortly followed by the "Cruise Control" button blinking (the check engine light was on steady)

We replaced the battery on Tuesday and all lights went out. We drove approximately 120 miles home and the light was off all the way. Yesterday, after driving for about 10 minutes, both lights came back on.

The lights are obviously linked in some way but the manual says BOTH lights have to be blinking for there to be a problem.

Anybody got any ideas? The car seems to be running fine.

We did check the gas cap (check engine light came on the first time 10 minutes after we gassed up and the cap was not on properly)

We cannot turn off the cruise control light using the manual instructions
