I had a 1978 99 EMS and a 1985 900 Turbo. I too hope that Spyker can undo the damage GM has done over the past 20 years, and re-create Saab. However, it will be very difficult.

If Spyker wants Saab to survive, they need to return to what Saab's roots are, and focus on their core customer base. Get away from trying to cater to suburban breeders and socermoms, who want to see their precious offspring in SUVs and similar nonsense, and build quirky, innovative performance cars for intelligent people.

Spyker/SAAB should take the path of BMW Mini, Fiat 500, VW Beetle and release a retro bullnose 95 and 96. How about an all fuel two stroke engine, there are some very efficient engines out there or a full Electric version? Light weight high performance with selectable FWD AWD.

I am the proud owner of a 1960 96, 1964 850GT and a 1984 900. Stopped buying SAABs back in 1994 when GM made SAAB use other brands' platforms.

I agree. SAABs have traditionally been quirky vehicles made for people who do not follow the crowd. The last decent models made were the pre-1994 900 and the 9000. Then came GM and wanted to make SAAB into a brand for suburban breeders and started building SUVs and similar stuff. That did not work and GM ended up completely gutting SAAB and screwing it up. Whether Spyker can undo it is the big question.

It would seem that there are plans to build a mini fighter based on the early Model 92.

It is a smart logical thing to do based on the very high sales volume of the Mini, Beetle and Fist 500 SS. I just hope they keep the price within the price ranfe of these vehicles.

hehe...I'm fired up about new saab designs...let's not forget that saab was practically out of business when GM bought half of them back in 1990...GM didn't have this big evil plan to ruin Saab :-)

Nevertheless, they did ruin it, being GM...:)

Most Saab owners seemed to loose interest after GM got envolved. From what I am reading Spyker might have the approach. I presently own a 1995 9000 CS and a 1989 900 Turbo convertible

I hope so. I would buy another Saab again, if they do.
