My United States 78 Shadow's smog pump has begun to rattle. I was wondering if the smog pump is really needed? With the age of the car, there is no state inspection needed anymore. Will the car run fine without the pump? I have found a rebuilt pump for $65.00. Any suggestions appreciated!

The car may run without one, but the carburation is tuned around it being there. Making the necessary changes to the tuning would probably cost more than the replacement pump. I would just get that one and fit it.
