I have recently purchased a 1998 Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph and was hoping that someone maybe able to help me identify what an electrical plug socket is used for. This socker is a 3 pin type and is situated inside the luggage compartment on the left hand side just forward of the tail light.
There is no mention of this plug in the owner's handbook

My best guess is that it is a supplementary 12 volt power socket for items that can be used at that voltage, such as a mini fridge.
If you have a multimeter I would suggest that you check it for voltage between any 2 of the 3 pins both with and without the ignition switched on.
If you only have a bulb type tester you can check between each of the pins and any earth point on the chassis or bodywork.

Ross, did you find anything out?
On the one i look after its positioned on the rear boot wall by the nearside hinge.

I understand its for plugging in a battery conditioner to keep the auxillary battery charged during extended periods of non use.

Anybody know where the male plug to fit the socket can be obtained?

That could be correct, but wouldn't the leads tend to be 'nipped' when shutting the boot lid? I know it happens with my old Silver Shadow (even after 33 years) when I charge the battery overnight.
