I just bought a SC II and was cheking all the fluids, The manual says the transmission fluid dip stick is in under front seat.. driver side? passenger side?

I lifted the carpet and there is black felt, bolted and appears to be glued down..

I don't want to rip up everything looking for the dipstick. if someone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it

The gearbox dipstick should be under a largeish rubber plug in the front footwell on the right hand side. You MUST check the level with the engine running and up to full operating temperature or it will seem to be grossly overfull due to the fluid flywheel being empty. You can download a full workshop manual for the car from here: http://rrtechnical.info/sc/sc2.htm in PDF format courtesy of the Rolls Royce Owners Club of Australia. They also have a forum for those who need more help here: http://rroc.org.au/wiki/index.php... which is open to all RR/B owners of ALL models worldwide.

In that case it should be slightly to the right of the accelerator pedal and between it and the driver's seat. Otherwise it should still be in the same place even on a LHD car, but without the relationship to the pedal which is on the other side of the car of course.
Have you looked at the workshop manual yet? I use the relevant one for working on my Shadow all the time. As for the forum: It's recently allowed me to contact an old schoolfriend who I haven't seen for well over 40 years even though he now lives over 60 miles away, just because he owns a Rolls Royce and has seen my name on there. Small world, eh?

Lu Rice. Ignore Snarknado; he's a jealous idiot.

Now examine the whole of the engine block to try and ascertain where the oil has escaped from. In normal circumstances just about the only place oil can work it's way out of a non running engine is around the sump plug threads due to a failing/failed collapsible copper washer. Although few bother, you really should replace it at every oil change to prevent such leaks. If it's the case the head of the plug will be wet/damp with oil and the pool will start directly below it. If the the car is sloping in any direction the oil may travel some distance along the sump pan before dripping off, so check for a trail of oil from the plug to the 'head' of the pool.
