Bentley turbo r tyres

I have a 1994 Bentley turbo r with 16 inch alloys what are the correct size tyres it's running 255 55 16 s I am told these are American size what is correct for uk spec cars ? Also the brakes are a bit snatchy pulling one way then the other what could be wrong with these ?

The width is right, but the height ratio seems a little low, although it also depends on which rims were OEM. Turbo R's came with either 255/60 X 16 or 255/65 X 15. Your 55's will be making the speedo run a little 'fast' by about 4%.
As for the brakes it could be so many things, but the first things that comes to mind are that the pads may be well worn and/or the slider pins may be corroded and not allowing the pads to move as easily as they should. Fortunately there's nothing special about the calipers on Bentley - at least the front ones - so if you're fairly happy with your spanner swinging abilities you can soon strip them down and give them a good clean and greasing where appropriate.
