Aftermarket recreates Targa roof for Porsche

I'm not quite sure I understand the point of this after market option. If I'm reading this correctly, for $10k you can have your Porsche coupe chopped up and turned into a Targa. Porsche currently offers a targa in the 997 flavor and did so in the 911, 964, 993 and 996 models. Why would you devalue your already well designed Porsche by chopping it up, when you could simply purchase a factory version? What am I missing?

Read the article for yourself and you decide.

The aftermarket Targa harkens back to the original 911 Targa, with the thick, black rollbar and removable hard-top roof. The newer Targas, from the 996 on, have been equipped with retractable glass roof panels instead. I believe the point of this option is to return to the "classic" style of Targa, which arguably provides a more "open" roadgoing experience.

Interesting, I suppose you people want to be unique. I would just buy the 997 Targa....

I understood the difference. I guess I just don't get it. I'm about as big of a Porsche fan as there can be. I do like the "original" style targa, but I like the new large sliding glass style of the 993, 996 and 997 as well. Just seems silly to me to spend $10k to chop up one of the best designed and built sport coupes available today.
