At least he'll have the memory of going 172 mph to keep him warm at night.

Sloppy reporting - WHERE was he driving? Down a city street? On a stretch of abandoned freeway? Such an obvious point.

Clocked at 172 mph. Know what that really means?

That's when the guy was flying so absolutely fast I have no freeking idea what his speed really was. So 172 is a nice number. 170 is to even. Even though the cop was pizzed, 180 is way overboard. So 172 it be.

I've had my Cobra up around 185, and it IS a hoot. But, it was on the track. Go fast but be safe. For anyone demonstrating this little regard for others I think he got off light.

I just looked at a BBC report, and they go into a lot more detail such as the road that he was clocked doing 172mph, it was a four lane country road (not a freeway)
To put the speed into some kind of perspective I copy/pasted pat of the report from the arresting officer.

Insp Percival said the 172mph speed equated to 77m per second.

"To put that into context, the average duration of a single blink of the eye is 0.3 seconds, during which time the car would have travelled 23m (five car lengths)."

Where he was driving?
What time of the day he was driving?
How police know that he was driving at 172?
How police caught him , where they can not drive by 172 at least to catch him?
Or Ho wthey caught him?

Thak you Reza June....(got a place to see that report?)

Oh... and he QUIT his job ??? Like they were going to let him stay? WTF is it that hard to find employees over there? Me thinks I will call some rent a car places... tell them I am looking for a job, and that I had to "quit" my last job for taking a car without permission and driving it 172 mph.... and see how soon I can start!

Many years ago, I drove that fast one time in an Italian car that I owned. Did it on I-83 at a time when there was no traffic to endanger.
It was white knuckle fever and any 'land-markers' were a blur. And the car was so low that you could drive it under a semi. A one time rush, that I would never repeat, as I realized the tremendous amount of reflexes required to do that sort of stuff. Tire blows or a bird hits the windshield and you're toast. A while later, I road in a Maserati Ghibli and a 275LM Ferrari at similar speeds as a passenger on roads in New Jersey. The 'pilots' were very skilled, but it scared the crap out of me.
