When I saw the Porsche Boxster for the first time at the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show in the late 1990s, it was lust at first sight. via Daily Breeze

Yep, have owned 5 Porsches ('57 Speedster 1600N; 62 356 cabriolet; 67 912 Targa; 82 911 and lastly a 2002 Boxster S). The Boxster is by far the best Porsche I've owned, and surpasses the two Ferrari's I've owned (250GT; 330 GTE).

Porsche is overrated. Now my 1972 Pinto, now that was a car. 0 to 60 in under 3...hours. Handled like no car built since. I loved that car till it blew up after I got rear ended. Porsche, Jaguar. BMW, pffffffft. The pinto was THE CAR.

Enjoyed and related to your article. Can you recommend a good independent Boxster mechanic in Marin?
Thank you, Tom

Those of us with real Porsche cars consider the Finnish made Boxter the "Porsche with panties" because it is a car suitable mostly for women.

It's like back in the '70s when I was driving a 911S and SC and they came out with the 914. In Europe it had Porsche on one side of the rear and Volkswagen on the other. Then they went to the 924 and 928, but the 911 is STILL around and the others are just bad nightmares.

It's for people who appreciate driving as more than just getting from one spot to another.
If you want to go around in a tiny clown car, that's up to you, but until you've driven a Porsche up in the mountains around winding roads and experienced being one with the car you haven't lived!

Sounds like you got old enough so that instead of just riding on the short yellow bus they promoted you to driver.
We're all so proud of you...

If you're a short bus driver, you shouldn't make fun of your
passengers, if they're disabled people, you might get in trouble.

Short buses are OK, just obey the traffic lights.

<quoted text>
A REAL Porsche is the one envisioned, designed and built by Herr Porsche & Son, and the first one was made in a garage, in Austria, and not in grand old Germany. It it were not for kind and gentle Uncle Sam, Porsche would have stayed in Austria.

That's where the Porsche "spirit" is from.
That's where the roots are deep.
