i have a 99 grand am. i drive my car and it runs just fine. my SVS light just came on and supposedly it is giving me a "misfire" reading on my spark plug. i was told my spark plugs and wires are bad, and that my mass airflow sensor is bad, this being the reason my gas mileage is crappy, i get only 200 miles to a tank. is that really the problem?

2005/grand am - when driving there is a ticking noise that sounds exactly like a turn signal blinking. but they are not. both signals work when needed and all signal lights work. but the ticking never stops. checked fuses-no bad ones found. can you suggest something? thanks.

For the blinker noise go to this forum.

You need to sign up to see the pictures but the directions are there if you don't want the pics. I used this guide and it took care of my problem. All you need to do is put di-electric grease on the contacts for the blinker arm.

I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE 6cyl. My car was overheating and smoking and what not, So I had a guy put a new head gasket set on. After my car was done, I got in it, When I changed from park to reverse it kinda jerked which it never done, Ok so I drove it for about ten minutes, It didn't over heat like it usually did but I was on the highway and it cut off. Since then, It won't start!! I'v had a mechanic tell me that the guy lied and didn't put the back head gaskets on, That he only put the seal or whatever on. But it didn't over heat when I broke down, I'v had the fuses under the hood tested & their all good, Different spark plugs put in, It cranks but won't start. Go figure it was just paid off!! Does anyone have any advice for me? Or what I could do to try to see what the problem is. Something I myself can try. Thanks!!

I have a 1999 grand am GT, and when shifting my car from park into drive there is a huge clunk like the motor wants to jump out. Any ideas what the reason for this would be. I also have a service vehicle soon light on on the right gauge however my mechanic ran a diagnostic on the whole vehicle and recieved no trouble codes and said I would have to go to the dealer for that light, anyone know how to reset it? ALSO I have an annoying clicking sound(same sound as the turning signal or hazards) and it will not go off...I noticed the previous owner really butchered installing a radio and cut the plug that inserts into the ETS button next to the hazards. any help with these problems would be greatly appreciated.

i have a 97 grand am se, keys are stuck in the ignition, the car is in park, the lights on the gear shift panel are not working, i had to unhook the battery for the car to turn off, any idea whats going on????
lol... I had the same problem with mine.. you'll need to take the plastic off behind the steering wheel. on the bottom on the right hand side (if your facing the steering wheel) there is a long pin about 5 inches long. It is wide at one end for about 2 inches and tapers down to a smaller end which is about 3 inches long. the wider end is towards the back and the thin end of it is close to the steering wheel. if you push the wide part towards you. you will be able to turn your key all the way back and get them out and your car will turn off.

I have a 2002 Grand Am SE. Started it tonight and Service engine soon light started flashing and Trac off light came on. Car was shuddering/shaking which would get worse if I touched the break or turned the steering wheel, sounded like it was going to die. Have had no major problems with the car in the past. Anyone have the same problem? Or a solution? Please Help!

"My flooded car starts but wont stay running after replacing engine": My son drove my 2002 Pontiac Gran Am into a flooded street. the car died and was hauled out with water inside to just a couple of inches below the front seats. Abn experienced independent mechanic (with no electrical knowledge) rebuilt the 2.4L engine and drained the transmission to where the car starts but wont stay running after a few seconds. I am not sure what or how much troubleshooting he and an electrical buddy have done (Starter, computer, ignition switch, fuel pump?) but the car has been in the shop for three months now. I just lost my job and desperatedly need to have it fixed even it takes me to tyroubleshoot it with guidance from you all. I will really appreciatte any ideas and previous experience with flooded gran ams. Thanks.

CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHERE THE CRANK SENSOR IN A 92 GRAND AM IS?
not sure about a 92 but a 2004 G/A has 2 crank sensors 1 in the back of the engine block by the passengers axel the other in behind the bottom pulley that the serpentine belt runs on, can't see a 92 being much different( depending on engine size mine is 3.4 v6 hope this helps
