GM appears ready to step on the brakes

General Motors Corp. may get rid of some brands, speed the introduction of small cars from other markets and make further white-collar job cuts as it tries to deal with a shrinking U.S. auto market.

They also need to get rid of more overpaid union workers.
And make it a clean cut, not a "buyout".

Buick sales are down 21 percent so far this year, while Saab is down 29 percent and Saturn sales are off nearly 19 percent. Saab, the Swedish automaker, sold only 12,068 vehicles during the first half of 2008.
Are those figures right? Only 12,000 Saabs in 6 months? That is bad.

The Unions are the main reason for work quality in plants, and good pay,..If they had not happened, we would all be working at Minimum wage jobs all these years. Since the U.S. had to go Global years ago to compete, All the third world countries started competeing with us. They have no benifits, health,safety, good pay. Thats hard to compete,.Don't worry thou,..in another twenty years there will be no middle class,..just poor and rich,...and it will only be a Service Type of Country,...all manufacturing outside of the U.S.
...LOL...
