I have just bought my 4 th Jetta...and they are awesome cars.
Very driveable good looking cars which are responsive quiet smooth and economical.
The new ones are laden with standard equipment...and have all the safety features.
I like the roomier interior...and the trunk is still class leading.
With excellent resale values this has to be the best value aroung.
Long live VW and the JETTA.

I just bought a 2008 Jetta SE 2.5, and noticed when you first start the car or when it's cold, it sounds kind of loud and annoying especially under or near the catalytic converter.

Is that normal? Any thoughts?

First, CONGRATS!! I just picked up my '08 Jetta SE too! I love this car! I noticed the engine revving kinda high on "cold start", then I read that this is NORMAL, and after 30 secs or so, it revs lower. I read that this uses less energy on start-up. I was relieved too, when I read that this was NORMAL. Good luck with your JETTA!!

I purchased my 2008 Jetta SE (Black) on December 7th, 2007. Absolutely love this vehicle. The suspension, steering, power, radio (10 speakers-premium sound), etc is just great. I've only had this vehicle for about 30 days or so but so far very impressed. It even has airbags in the back seat area. Hopefully the quality is there for a long time. Warranty is fantastic too.

There's a routine built into the computer to raise the idle to around 1400-1500 rpm's when the car is first started. The idle stays high for 30-45 seconds, then gradually goes back down to normal. I read somewhere that it's supposed to reduce emissions. I don't like it, as I don't think it's a good idea to rev the engine so high during a cold start. Also, if you put the car into gear too soon after starting, the car tends to lurch forward. Maybe all this "green" crap is being taken a little too far, eh?

Bought my Jetta S about 3 months ago. Couldn't be happier with the car. Excellent build quality. Very well equipped car for the price. Excellent value. Great drivetrain, suspension, and all-around performance. Decent gas mileage. Quality interior materials. Only complaint is the low-quality base radio, and the screwy, overly fast idle during cold weather start-ups.

The engine reving is normal, it is done to heat up the catalytic converter so it can do its job in reducing emissions faster. I bought an 08 Jetta Se with the sport styling kit, 17 inch activa wheels and tiptronic trans. I have been pleasantly surprised at all the features and thought put into almost every area. They say it is in the same class as a civic, corolla and Mazda three, but this car is in a whole other class. Solidly built and quality abounds. Se with the sport styling kit in my opinion is the best looking option.

MY 2008 JETTA AUTOMATIC SE JUST CRASHED THREW MY GARAGE DOOR! Have this car for 3 weeks and was loving it I leased if for my wife we are both upper 40s last night parked the car on my driveway and yes there is a nice incline on my driveway the car does not have 500 miles on it AND THE FIRST TIME ON MY DRIVEWAY she leaves 6.00 am. to get going to work and comes in the house shaking and crying she just went threw my garage door and dont know how or why!she went about 2 feet inside and what stopped the car was my ford superduty on the other side.I am thinking its her fault and its NOT as I check the car out myself being a racecar builder and trying to understand what the hell happened here READ THIS PART CLOSE OR YOU WILL FIND OUT THE HARD WAY!!!!
WHEN YOU GO FROM PARK TO DRIVE ON A INCLINE WAIT A FEW SECONDS BEFORE TAKING YOUR FOOT OFF THAT BRAKE PEDAL THERE IS A DELAY GOING IN GEAR AND THE CAR GOES FLYING BACKWARDS LIKE ITS IN NETURAL...IF YOU THINK THIS IS A FAKE POST EMAIL ME!AT AOL NYCMIKE. NOW I WILL DEAL WITH VOLKSWAGEN AND SEE IF THEY REALLY CARE, ALSO NEVER EVER DRIVE THIS CAR WITH 2 FEET IF YOUR OLD SCHOOL DRIVER WHEN PULLING OUT IN FAST TRAFFIC THE CAR GOES INTO LIMP MODE(THAT MEANS IT STAYS AT IDLE FOR 2-3 SECONDS EVEN IF YOUR PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL)LET THAT HAPPEN TO YOU WHEN YOUR NOSED OUT IN TRAFFIC AND THE CAR JUST STOPS MOVING!

I leased an '08 black Jetta SE stick in January. I have had Jeeps for over 10 years now - The payment was silly and the gas to feed the V8 pig was killing me. I was very angry that I had to get into a car, but it was my only choice. I chose the Jetta because it was economical and my friend owns a dealership. I cried when I traded my Jeep in :( BUT I love my Jetta - it is roomy and has all the bells and whistels that you need in a vehicle! Driving the stick makes it a little zippy car, easy to park. The heated seats, rain sensors, million air bags, satellite radio and indash 6 disk changer is great. There is even an I-pod hook up. Overall I think it is a fantastic little car - I originally was looking to bag out of my 4 year lease at 3 because it will hold the value but I probably will keep it. I was nervous about getting into a VW but it has exceeded my expectations. My mother even traded in her truck for a Passat after she heard about my car. Only gripes? Clutch - pedal is too close to the brake and the clutch has taken some time to get used to (not my first standard)and I keep stalling at weird times because it is so sensitive. If you are looking to purchase one I say go for it! YOu wont be dissapointed!:)

Mine does too. Also, when I put it in reverse without waiting for the noise to die down, the car gives an extra little jump, which is annoying. My old Passat never did that. I thought you weren't supposed to wait for cars to warm up these days, just start slow? Other than that it's a good car, I will maintain it and drive it until it dies.:)
