Okay. So I went to the store earlier today and came home, everything was fine. Got back in the car an hour later, the alarm starts going off. The doors were unlocked and everything. Finally got the alarm to disable automatically since I dont have a fob. Now, the car wont start. Is this a safety feature? Does something need to be reset?? We popped the hood and I did have some battery corrosion. Tried to jump the battery and that wouldnt work. Problem is, everything on the inside is getting power. Lights, radio and it even sounds like its trying to turn over...so it sounds like battery to me. But what about the alarm?? Seems crazy. Can anyone help me please!

I had a similar situation occur a few days ago. A friend's Xterra would not start after setting off the alarm (both of her FOBS are broken). The solution was to use the key in the DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. Using it it the ignition did not turn off the alarm (or fix the no start problem obviously).

My wife just filled up with gas and then xterra would not start. Cranked just fine but would not fire. Someone said to press the alarm button on the fob. Alarm sounded. Pressed again to turn alarm off. Car started like normal. What gives with that?

IT IS AN ANTI THEFT device, if someone force-opened the X, they won't be able to drive away without the key. It happened to me, after tow truck and 911 helped, all I had to do was get off my car, lock and unlock from driver's side, and all was fine.

I have replaced the battery, alternator and starter in the past year in an attempt to fine out what is wrong. There are still times when I turn the key and the engine does not start. There is a click and nothing happens. I have read others reporting similar problems. Has anyone figured out why the Xerra frequently does not start? Thanks, Mary

My Xterra has been having the same issue....it cranks but wont turn over. Had it at the dealer several times claim they can't find the problem. Battery is good, have full power. They are replacing the starter even though they thnk it fine. Very frustrating on have 14,000 miles on the car.

My 2002 xterra is in the same boat. Drove about 60 miles, shut off, then started right back up, drove it home where it shut down and now I can't get it started. Will crank, changed the fuel filter, fuel pump, plugs, I have spark, and fuel to the engine but just wont turn over. Any suggestions.

Same problem with the alarm and car not starting except the key will not go into the drivers side door lock (or the back). I locked it with the fob and then lost the fob at a rest stop on a road trip!!! Couldn't open with key so opened through window and alarm went off. Now can't start it or use the key for unlocking door or starting car!! Help! Had to take a cab to a hotel. This is a nightmare! Any suggestions?

I have a 2005 X that will occasionally not fire, cranks fine. Tried the key in the door, alarm fob, nothing! If it does fire, it runs very choppy and rich. I leave it alone for a while or remove battery cables, fires right up! Only does this once in a while, of course, at the most inconvenient time. Anyone else had this problem? I am done with Nissan!!

Had the same problem last night with the alarm going off and not being able to start the vehicle. So I tried the key in the driver's side door trick... IT WORKED!!!! Saved me a whole lot of money and problems.
