What do I do if my car falls under this recall and I didn't know about it till I read it on the internet. I don't know who to call or what to do about this potentially hazardous defect. Please help me be better informed, thank you.

Go to your nearest Nissan dealer and ask them about it...they should be able to help you.

No, and a little work with your search engine of choice would have turned that up for you. Use Google, Yahoo, MSN, or whatever /before/ you ask a question.

I've done the work for you this time:

I use nissan altima ipod connector I found at nissanaltimaipodmp3.com/ for my nissan old model.
This connector works for the Nissan models with a circular 8-PIN DIN socket connector on the back of their car stereo systems

crank pos sensor goes bad and screws with the car.. stalls happen or general freaky occurrences, sometimes the car still runs other times not...
You are SOL if you are in Canada and the warranty expired.. this is a recall and they will replace the sensor if you are still under warranty.
I had my car die because of the CPS, luckily I was still under warranty.
The Pre-Catalytic converter on the exhaust manifold fails and particles get sucked into the engine... this eventually will toast your engine too... again if under warranty... you're ok.. otherwise SOL.
Nissan Canada is only required to notify of recalls, they don't actually have to fix them if you are past warranty even if you have next to no miles.
Butterfly valve screws on the intake come loose and fall into the engine... sometimes both screws come out and the valve plate falls into the top of the engine...
My 2002 SE-R Spec-V with only 80,000 or so kilometers on the 2.5 engine had the pre-cat problem.. so it began burning a little more oil...
but not excessively yet at that point...
Then the butterfly valve screw fell in to the engine and took it out..
I don't race my car nor do I red-line it and I change the oil every 5000km (sometimes sooner) with nissan oil filters and mobil-1 synth oil.
The engine should not die this soon even if someone beat the living crap out of the car....
I now have to come up with $6,000 or more dollars to get the engine replaced on a car that is only worth about 7 or 8 thousand...
Nissan Canada refuses to even help a little with this... their attitude is... "too bad.. you bought a Nissan... who cares if no miles are on the car it is just past the emissions control warranty... so... suck on that!"
Needless to say with all the recalls and engine issues and worst of all... Nissan Canada's hatred of their customers, I will never be buying nissan again.

I just happened upon this post. Thank GOD. I just paid $1k to have my car fixed and its still giving me trouble. Been to the mechanic 5 times..saw this post and called the dealer and they confirmed my make and model (2005 Nissan Altima 2.5) does indeed have a recall. Taking it to them Monday to have the ECM reset. Finally a solution. I was at wits end! Im in the US, not Canada.

Did they ever fix the catalytic converter problem? It stops up and ruins the cylinder head/s.

A bad oxygen sensor is what causes your gas mileage to drop. The sensor malfunctions causing the computer to send more fuel. When they get really bad, raw gas accumulates in the exhaust manifold causing smoking and the sensor to completely go bad.
