what is causing this code? I have replaced the spark plugs and the coils. The light went away for awhile but the trouble light is back now. same code 0300. It doesn't happen often but when it does the engine has about a 5 second shake when you first start it.. Any suggestions??

Did you ever get this figured out? I have the exact same thing happening to my 2005 Nissan Sentra right now. The shaking on start and also it is drinking coolant like gatorade. I keep getting the 0300 code also and my mechanic cannot figure it out!

I have not figured it out. The light is out now but still get the shake about 3 times a week. It only does it at start up. It's fine after a few seconds. I have just been unhappily living with it. Please let me know if you figure it out and I will do the same.
Thanks

I found out! I called a friend of a friend who is a Nissan Service Manager and as soon as I told him the diagnostic code the other mechanic guy got (P0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire) he said it's a blown head gasket. The warranty covers this under 60,000 miles and mine was just under that, so it is now in the shop being fixed.

Did yours gulp down coolant like mine did? Mine sucked up a whole tank of coolant in one week. Best of luck to you!!

To anyone else coming across this thread who has a 2005 Nissan Sentra, check out this link:

Evidently '05 Sentras have this as a KNOWN issue but Nissan is not doing anything about it. Don't keep driving it like that!

I have the same problem. I have been to my local mechanic several times to troubleshoot, but same problem comes back after few days/weeks. He thinks it is Head Gasket problem and told me to report it to Nissan before 60000 miles. I have 55000 miles right now. Please update status to your problem/resolution.

I took it to Nissan last week and they fixed it under warranty. I didn't pay a cent. They said Nissan is not doing a recall on this because not enough cars were affected. The guy also said that he has not seen many recurrences after the initial fix of the '05 Sentra head gasket issue. The car runs perfectly now. Best of luck to you, but you probably won't need it so long as you go to the dealer.

My car is shaking!! Literally shakes when I star the engine and as I drive. The check engine light also went off. I took it to Strauss ( two different locations ) and one said it was coolant and the other said the tires were no good so recommended to get new tires wheel alignment plus, I thought that diagnostic was really bad so I went to a local shop and they gave me a very different diagnostic; PO300, with a list of possible problems. The guy suggested to take the car to a Nissan dealer to get a very specific diagnostic on which problem the car has and come back to him for a cheaper repair. What to do??

Eleuteriafree: it's your head gasket, this is a known issue and the main cause of the P0300 code.

I also had this problem on my 04 spec v. I redid the top end but still have this code when its hot outside.
Also for those who dont know on 03 04 QR25DE engine there is a recall on screws in lower intake. One of my eight was loose.

I've had this same problem with a 2003 Sentra Spec-V in the past. I was past 60,000 and my warranty was up so I ended up paying $1,400.00 for repairs. Now it's three years later and I'm having the same problem. This time someone suggested that I try putting a engine treatment in the tank because my injectors may be clogged. Well I figured that since that's the least expensive then I would give it a try. Here it is two days later and after driving about 20 miles my check engine light has gone out and my car so far isn't misfiring. I would strongly suggest trying this before just taking it to the Nissan stealership and they take you for a lot of money for something that was an easy fix.

Oh yeah, the $1,400.00 that I spent was for replacing the head gasket. I'm the sole owner of this car and I average about 8 to 9,000 miles a year. The car is never driven hard. I'll give Nissan the benefit of the doubt for the first time but the way I drive this car there's no way they can tell me that it's the head gasket again when I hardly drive it. If it is the head gasket then I'll have it fixed and then sold.

Yeah, the same problems everybody else is having. trying hard to find a solution. I'm taking advise from a mechanic I know, he told me that since blown head gaskets are a known problem i can try to pour in a sealant into the radiator, if that isn't the problem now, it would prevent it from being one in the future. So i'm doing it, good luck.

My Altima has the same code. Would a head gasket be consistent or sometimes with the misfire??

did your car pass emission or with light being in on, my car is doing something like that, but your heater would not be blown out like it should just because of blown basket

I had this problem and after searching the internet and talking to locals, the problem was a cam shaft sensor. The code will tell you which bank has the problem, but the code itself does not specify the cam shaft sensor. I bought it for about $30. It relays information to the car's brain and when the information is wrong, the car puts itself in 4th gear (or something like that) when the engine was warmed up.

I have a 2006 and started with the 420 code 5 months ago. Changed cat. 3 weeks ago got the 304 three days in a row, changed plugs. two days later got 300. Changed exhaust manifold gasket. Three days it ran fine then j300 again. Just changed crankshaft sensor. 300 in a matter of minutes.

I have a 2003 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V. I was throwing a P0300 code for a long time, my car was shaking like mad at the bottom end of the gears while driving. I took it to my local dealer and it turns out the wire harness for the fuel rail went bad, causing the multiple misfire code to be thrown. Replaced the wiring to the fuel rail a few months back, and my car is still running like a champ. Hope this helps
