We're in Australia and bought a Path finder in May 2006. It has a fuel gauge problem. It tells us it's empty (0kms to go) but when we fill up, it will only take around 60 litres in the 80 litre tank.

We know from previous correspondence with Von Bibra Motors, the dealer, that there have been problems with other vehicles. they have replaced a part but there is no difference.

Val Davis, Customer Care Nissan Australia (Ha Ha!) has replied to Von Bibra that if it will take 64-65 litres when it tells you that it is empty then that is within an accuracy level that they are satisfied with. So if we are on a long haul we have no real idea of how many kms we still have left.

***Disgusted. Yes! Will we recommend or buy another Nissan vehicle. Never!

Has anyone over there had a similar problem. Our Pathfinder was made in Spain.

Maureen,
You are not alone. I purchase my 2006 Nissan Pathfinder vehicle brand new here in the US and just this week my fuel gauge has started to read incorrectly. I have filled up my tank at the gas station and driven off with the tank reading empty. Now my engine light is on.
I am very angry that this is happening to such a new vehicle and expected more from Nissan. This has to be a recall. I am going to my dealership to see if they can fix this.

bought a 06 path in nov 06 (New York)the following august 07 gas gauge started to read incorrectly. then i ran out of gas.... went to the dealer 6 times until it was fixed. however 4-6 months later it started less and less as i fill it up until at 1/2 tank it reads 48 miles...normally 1/2 tank is 100-110 miles.....then without doing anything it reads 107 miles on the dte. pretty screwed up.....SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE

Same issue with our 2007 Pathfinder... We bought our 2007 in the winter of 06, for the past year we have had issues with the check engine soon light popping on. Now, for the past 2-3 months (maybe longer) the gas gauge is not working properly. We fill the tank and it either registers empty, half tank, or after a few days it will register full, but the DTE blinks as if there is no gas. We brought it to the Nissan Dealership (MA), and they are saying it has something to do with the fuel pump and want $500 to fix the problem. I completely agree that this is something that should be considered a recall, but who really makes that decision??? I am completely dissapointed with Nissan.... They really need to step up and take ownership for this issue. It seems as though there is a good amount of people out there that are experiencing this same problem.

Same problem here. I fill up and it still reads empty. I hadn't gone to the dealership yet to find out how much it will be but apparently it is quit spendy. This sucks!!!

I am having the same problem with my Xterra-check engine light is on, fuel guage does not work, distance till empty function does not work. Nissan consumer affairs gave me the run around and now I have filed a Better Business complaint and a Consumer Affairs complaint since this is such a common problem I suggest everyone do the same. Unless Nissan hears complaints, they will do nothing about it and the consumer is screwed either in shelling out the money for the repair or in decreased trade in value for the vehicle.

You can add me to the list - same problem. Guage shows full sometimes when tank is full, and then drops to E about 1/2 tank. Engine light on all the time. '06 pathfinder. Think Nissan has a problem here,

Same problem...2005 Pathfinder with 54,000 miles. Gauge started showing empty with a full tank of gas and check engine light came on. Just happened yesterday, have not done anything yet but am discouraged by what I am seeing here on this website.

Same issue with the "check engine light" and the fuel gauge not working properly on my 2007 Pathfinder. Nissan should recall these.

I thought that I was the only one with this problem. I see that I'm wrong! I am too going to call Nissan and ask if there is a recall. You're right. YOu can fill up and the gauge says ------ with less than a 1/2 tank. Or sometimes its shows Full when I know dare sure it's time for gas. This is ridiculous!!!! My check engine light stays ON and now my alarm locks the car with no SOUND!! I have a Nissan Pathfinder LE 05. I bought it BRAND NEW. I am the only owner!! NISSAN NEEDS TO FIX THESE PROBLEMS, especially if they want me to ever buy another one of their vehicles.

As luck would have it, I received an assignment to Spain and wanting to have a reliable vehicle I purchased a new 2006 Pathfinder. Well, I'm having the same problem as many others .. fuel guage inaccuracy and "service engine light" remains on. My dilemma now: The military won't shipped my vehicle back the the U.S. if the fuel guage is malfunctioning. I'm curious if anyone has heard of a recall before I take my vehicle to a spanish dealership for repairs (do not get me started on the euro/dollar exchange rate!) SIGHS

I bought an 07 pathfiender, and a few months later the gas guage started to mess up, and the service engine light its been on ever since, it went off once only. I love nissan, but they really gotta do something about this problem, they're messing up a very good car name over a litlle problem that they can fix. I LOVE U NISSAN AND I BELIVE U CAN FIX THIS

I have the problem on a 05 Pathfinder, dealer estimates $250 for parts,$250 for labor. This hit suddenly as we were on the road. It read 1/2 tank and then suddenly went to 0. It continues to do this. I now don't trust the mileage gauges either.
