Okay, so started to hear noise from my engine compartment just after a month of owning my car. Took it into dealer and they " Said " that it could not be reporduced, only to find out that they knew exactly what it was because they changed the oil. Seems there is a problem with some of the 2006 2.5 engines that causes oil to burn after x amount of miles. Well the second time I brought it in they told me that yes there was a problem and that I should bring my car in every 700 miles until Nissan Decides what it is going to do about the problem. One solution is to replace the block, for me that's no solution. I paid for a new car not to have the motor replace just after 3 months. I say Replace with exact same " NEW" car or upgrade to the 3.5 for even trade value. If you are having the same problem call them out on it. Demand your rights.

Don't be too quick to get the 3.5 just yet. I have a 2006 Quest with the 3.5 and it is burning oil like a Kuwait oil well. It only has 15,000 miles. We somehow developed sludge in the engine. We are on the 500 mile interval dealer program while the analyze the problem. We have had several other problems also since day one. Can you say lemon 3 times fast. I should have saved the money and not done all the upgrades.

i got 2006 nissan altima 2.5 s from jordan dealer on may 2007. i hear noise coming from the engine whenever i switch it off. whenever i do the routine service they kept telling me that this noise does not indicate a defect and by continued driving it will go. in early 2008 my car was recalled to replace the engine. even after replacing the engine the same noise still there. any similar experience.

I have a 2006 Nissan Altima 2.5L with about 28500 miles on it. It had the engine recall for burning excessive oil. Nissan checked and told me there was nothing wrong with the car.
Over the past year or so the service engine soon light has come on a number of times. The first time Nissan told me it was the gas cap and charged me $100 to reset the light.
This time the light is back on again and I dont know what to do? I refuse to pay them $100 again to reset a light without an adequate explanation to the cause.
What should I do?

2006, 2.5.S WITH 30000 MILES.
EVERY TIME I TURN ON RECIRCULATION BUTTON IT TURNES A/C ON, IN ANY MODE OF AIR FLOW. NISSAN INSISTS THAT IT IS ACCORDING TO DESIGN, BUT I BOUGHT NEW AND IT WAS NOT DOING IT.
ANY ONE ELSE WITH THIS PROBLEM???

I own a 2006 2.5 S Nissan, Altima and I am having problems with my car starting. It has been to the dealership numerous times but they claim to be unable to duplicate the problem.

Anyone else with this problem?

Make sure your gas cap is tight (clicks several times when closing) Then unhook the battery for a few minutes. This should clear any codes.

I started having the same problem early part of 2010. I bought my 06 in 11/06 and had no problems except that cable post that go over the battery was lose and that was the problem to why the car was not starting some of the time. I just went and had the battery checked and It was time to replace the battery. I bought cable post that goes over the battery to replace the factory ones. The factory ones are too thin..

I also had to replace the battery cable end on my Max. The original one was a thin washer.

I have the same issue also. Noticed it happens after running the car at normal temp, shutting it off, then try to start it about a half hour later, it acts like it gets no fuel. Turn it off and try again righht away and it starts right up. Usually happens in warm/hot weather. I thought it was the temp sensor but it wasn't. Anyone have advice or knowledge of this issue?

HI: I have a 2006 Altima SER, Bought New May 30, 2006...I have a long commute everyday...Car has been The best car mechanically I have ever owned, Only complaint from me has been the gas door replaced 3 times already...door hinge bad design...Car has over 140,000miles..

For a while I noticed a noise from the engine, went away after oil change...2 oil changes ago I had a mechanic go for a test drive with me so he could hear the noise from the engine area...They changed oil, but told me there was hardly any oil to drain out...they want to check car after next 1,000miles...which for me was 3weeks...Down a little more than a quart...where is it going not smoking out back, not leaking at all..so where is it going...Dealership still monitoring consumption...I decided to check this out online and we just paid the car off last month...Figures

I found the info for the recalls issued back in 06 & 07 ...calling nissan tomorrow to have them check my VIN...not sure if the Altima SER is included, I think only 2.5L engines....if my car is acting like the ones recalled what would be my recourse to have them recalled...

Worst case gong to keep topping off oil and run the car into the ground (only concerned about the potential of fire as I read in recall)...then I'll have it towed to dealership park across street with huge sign reading LEMON
