2001 mitsubishi galant paint defect

i am outraged at all the complaints i have read concerning mitsubishi's paint problem. i have never came across such a thing. i recently took my car to kerry mitsubishi and feel as if i am getting the run-a-round about my problem. my problem that is exactly what others seem to be complaining about. yes my car is out of warranty, but having a 2001 brand new (bought october 2000) galant, paid-off, and just now 51,000 miles on it, car that seems like it is over 20 years old?!?! what is the deal here? if anyone can help me with this significant problem please contact me @ [e-mail]. thank you.

I have a 2001 Galant and I am outraged on what is happening to my black car. It started of as a small white spot that has spread across the roof of my car. I called mitsubishi and they told me it's not under warranty!!!! Well what car is after 8 years? This is how you deal with this problem!! Please what do I do..People all over are experiencing the same problem!!!

I too own a black 2001 Mitsubishi Galant ES and it has gotten really embarassing to been seen driving a car with such ugly paint problems. I first noticed a spot on the hood about 2 years ago. Since thenm the problem has spread all over the hood, truck and top of car. I guess the sides will be next. I took my car to be serviced at a Mitsubishi dealership and I noticed that they submitted a statement of complaint on my behalf (although I didn't say a word about it- the car looks so crappy there is no need for words) to their main Mitsubishi office and noted that it would be 3 weeks. I am hoping something comes of this.

omg me too! my 2001 galant ES was all black but now the hood, roof and truck are almost white. its so horrible and embarrassing to be seen in it. i heard that there was a defect in the paint. the sides of my car are now starting to turn white and the car is in all disgusting!!

I too have the exact same make and model and mine is doing the exact same thing. Its so bad its rusting now and I went to Macco and a paint job to cover up the white spots is going to be about $900. I will never buy from Mits again.

I have the same problem. About two years ago Mitsubishi repainted my car (except the doors). Why they did not just paint the whole car, I'm not certain. But I am/was grateful to God for that much because a paint company was going to be a pretty big investment.
Check again with the corporate office and see if you can get anything accomplished.

i live in columbia Mo. me and my girl friend got our galant last year used and it had a very small spot on the roof we didn't think much of it so we bought it. now the spot has pretty much covered the hood roof and trunk and is also moving down the side of the trunk . ware i work there is another black galant hmm with the exact paint problem. and to top that off some one came into the restaurant i work at and they have the same problem i got there vin numbers and other information and i am going to contact a lawyer if mitzubitchy doesn't at least pay for and acknowledge that it is there fault. sorry i have bad grammar.

I bought a 2003 black, Mitsubishi Galant brand new from the dealership with only 13 miles on it. The paint began fading-showing white spots-about two years ago between 50-60 thousand miles. It is now almost completely white and the top is pealing and rusting fast. I did go to the dealership when it was under warranty and they said that was not covered because it was sun damaged. I now understand that this problem is an epidemic. Now that my vehicle is paid off, I am having Maco repaint it for a low price. I've received four estimates with the highest being $3,500. I'm getting the "Presidential" paint job and hope that it will at least last the remainder of the cars life. Hopefully the lawsuit will be settled soon so that I can receive full or partial reimbursement. I've also tried to contact katriellaw.com , but have not received a response as to the status of the lawsuit. However, I do know that as of October 2008 Mitsubishi was denying the paint defect and blaming the consumer.

I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant ES and it too has these same issues. My problem started on the hood and proceeded to the trunk area and now it is all over my doors and rear. It is so embarrassing and I live in a huge city in California and I have seen 3 other similar cars with the same issue...all black Mitsu Galants....what do we do next?

I have a burgandy 2001 Mitsubishi Galant ES. The paint is terrible on trunk, rear bumper, roof, door handles and back of mirrors whichhas turned white. Thought I was going to have to pay for a paint job but now will contact their corporate office.

I own a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant and my paint is also fading. I seen three vehicles that are around the same year as mine just in my general area and they look the same! This needs to be fixed. I am getting nowhere with Mitsubishi and I doubt anyone else will, but if enough people complain to the Better Busines Bureau and the NHSTA (Office of Defects Investigation), we can get a recall, but we need everyone's support! Let's get our cars painted! To file a complaint with the BBB (which only takes about 10 minutes), so to https://odr.bbb.org/odrweb/public/getstarted.... . I would also recommend that everyone file a complaint with the NHSTA so we can get a recall! Their web address is http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/ . That filing will also only take a few minutes of your time and if enough people file complaints, we will get what we want, save a lot of money and increase the trade-in/resale value of our vehicles. If anyone's vehicle looks like mine...it's almost embarassing to drive! PLEASE HELP!

I too have a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant, black, with ugly white spots all over it. Is there any hope for a new paint job or anything? This is the first new car I have ever owned, and now it is getting embarrassing to drive around anymore.

We are looking at a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant ES, black, to buy for our son. We noticed, on the passenger front quarter panel, the black paint was oxidized and there are white splotches. The man told us it is a default with the paint from Mitsubishi and that the area has 'grown' since they purchased the car a year ago. I thought I would google the paint and I am very surprised at what I have read, on many sites, in regards to the paint problems. Most people seem to have the oxidation problem/peeling on the roof, trunk and/or hood. I have not read any post of a vehicle with the paint problem only on the front quarter panel. I was wondering if the paint problem may be centralized to this panel only...where we could have it repainted? My thought is that since it has only happened since 2002 to now mid 2009; is it possible that the clear coat was only missing on this quarter panel vs. the other parts of the car? Any comments will be appreciated...we have been looking for a vehicle with low miles and good condition, that we can afford to buy for our son... but we don't want to fall into a money pit with this paint issue!!
