Well, if your dreams include Morten Harket I'll definitely disappoint you. But I do sing in the shower though - so I'm alive and feel handsome.
As to your small towns - what you tell reminds me of boyhood's cowboy movies with crooks as sheriffs
-(untill john Wayne entered the stage). I think there are still some court decisions and sentences around your places that are legal mysteries to us on this side of the pond. may be there isn't much that has changed sinc the first half of the 19th century some places at yours ??(LOL)
I think some Americans have cried for - and some have promised - CHANGE!!? Or perhaps I haven't been listening closely enough....?
Ciao!
LOL....Small town America is nice if you are completely oblivious to what goes on around you. America's small towns are usually run by the laws of the locals..so don't tick them off!! They want to put a tax on our gasoline now, for "improvements" to the town. Our town is a total wreck right now....looks like it used to when they were travelling in wagons and coaches along a dirt road. Anyway, I really don't understand why the rest of the country has to conform with the laws of the raise in minimum wage, but the business owners here are exempt.
Yeah, I do fantasize about Morten, he's been my dream since I was 10 years old...hehehehe. My husband hates him too...lol.
Have a great one!!!

There are quite different factors than Bush's ban-
lifting influencing the oil price the other day
and you will have to understand it being nothing but normal that prices (oil no exception)shivers a bit up and down on all levels.
The reduced gas/oil consumption in USA lately had direct influence on oil prices.
That's why I found your conclusion somewhat unrealistic.

I do have.
And: who said I hate Morten Harket?? Cannot love or hate someone I simply don't know...
Having seen him and heard him as you have.
He is - as Norwegian- one of very few who had success of that kind.
Tell your husband it's wasted energy!!
You've got something- don't disappear!
Cheers

LOL...you are a joy to converse with. Yes, if I were a stranger coming into these small towns, I would definitely worry....Someone should make a movie about it. Anyway, I did read that Norway has the highest petrol prices in Europe....it must be difficult for some of the families there, I'm sure not everyone makes great amounts of money. I do think you have a beautiful country though.
Nobody hates Morten,,,lol. My husband just hates when I swoon over him...lol. They are trying to begin drilling for oil in South Dakota here to help ease the fuel prices....we have loads of natural resources, but aren't allowed to tap into them. That is something to debate. EPA versus America's need for fuel. Anyway, it is a double edged sword that topic.
It's most fun speaking with you. Take care.

As a matter of fact our price levels are generally quite high. I drove to Gothenburg on the WC of Sweden a week ago and found the gas prices there were just a little lower than here.
You'll appreciate that the length of our tiny little country from south to north equals the distance from Oslo to north Africa. The domestic prices vary considerably from south to north. As a German said once when I said Norway is a small country - "No, Norwegen is a big country with a small population". It depends on what you compare with I guess.
Generally gas prices in Europe are very high - compared to your prices. You should be grateful because that reduces our demand/consumption and ease the pressure upon the prices globally. No doubt some feel the prices harder than others here too but don't forget we have always given priority to public transport. Most of us are not "stuck" if we cannot afford to fill the tank.

Of course I understood no-one "hate" Morten H- incl your husband -( say hello!). My wife gets alert too when I say hello to the luscious blonde across the hedge, so I stopped the "hello" - now I just say "hell!". I don't know for how long it will work.........
Cheers!

LOL...that is a whole other forum altogether...
If we didn't live in such rural locations here, public transit would definitely work. There isn't a bus, train, tram, subway service anywhere near here. We do have private taxi services, but they are a bit outrageous. The only problem I have with the price of fuel, is the fact that alot of people here, have to cut the budget for food for their family in order to pay for gasoline to get them to work for a week. We have stopped alot of unnecessary traveling around here. I don't feel the crunch as much because my husband is English and he works for a company in England and the exchange rate on his pay right now is very good from pounds to dollars. Anyway, I do hate it for those that are having to struggle because of it.

Yes, I share your concern for those who cannot make ends meet, in particular those who work a hard, full day and still cannot make it.
Read the other day that now the minimum wage in USA has increased. Let's hope that improves economy for many.
