Mercury in reverse as star has fallen

Sales are sinking and jobs are disappearing in the auto industry. When production cuts aren't enough, there is another option: eliminate a division.

It would be nice if Ford would let Mercury sell versions of the Mazda 5, and some version of the European version of the Focus or Volvo S40/V50 or Mazda 3 (all about the same car). This would give Mercury some unique cars and Americans access to some nice cars from an American name. This would also fit in with Ford's “One Ford” plan.

So sad that Mercury has dropped off, due primarily to a lack of marketing and no brand recognition.
BTW, Mercury's have not been sold in Canada since 2002.

Actually, the Mercury brand was phased out in Canada; there are no Mercury dealerships. The Mercury Grand Marquis is sold in Canada, but under Ford dealerships.
