Hybrids Versus Diesels

America's environmental chickens have come home to roost. For nearly two decades, we've blithely bounded from sea to shining sea in ever porkier sport-utility vehicles fueled by cheap gasoline.

Hybrid SUV's are a joke. Regardless, of whether they are hybrid or not sales will continue to fall. The only thing thats selling now are fuel efficient vehicles. The next step I think is to use the internal combustion engine to power an electric drivetrain. A standard half ton gets 100 mpg. Its been used in freight trains for years.

They are only a joke because you dont like SUVs. A gigantic tahoe getting 22 mpg town and 20 mpg highway is very desirable. So now all the suburban soccer moms can get the same mpg of a minivan while driving a safe and stylish ride, and the enviros cant complain.

Why do you dislike SUV’s so much? Further, why can’t you let people be happy with the cars they like to drive? An individual has the same right to drive an SUV as you do an econo-box, regardless of fuel cost.

I do not dislike SUV's but trying to portray them as fuel efficent is a job. And if GM really wanted to increase the fuel efficency of their suv's, they would use hydraulic hybrid technology and not the electric hybrid technology they have been. The ford prototype F150 hydraulic hybrid got 60 mpg in the city. Funny I havn't seen hide nor hair of it since it was announced.
