hi,
I have a 3l s type model 2000 (American specification). since one month i faced a check engine light on .
Second the remote controle wasn't functioning .
Later on I faced a transmission fault for some times and sometimes it was off.
Is it a common failure problem with a jaguar?
I replaced one coil four months ago.
awaiting your soonest reply.

To GEORGE: It's mean you need a new transmission already. Jaguar dealer will not even try to repair it, they will replace whole unit for $6000 -$7500 if car is not under warranty.
Say thanks to Ford! Good transmissions! Build tough!

I have a 2001 s type Jaguar. Complained many times at check up that the gears felt like the were slipping, under warranty at that point. They assured me everything was fine. My warranty expired ONE month ago...now I have a light that says...transmission fault...and yes I need a new tranmission...$6,000 and no warranty. Complained about this issue for 4 Years! Will never buy another Jag

I have 2001 and i have some minor problems with it. Sometimes it feels like geers are slipping and other times it drives like a dream. You guys are scaring me into selling the car because I am not spending 6000 for a new transmission.

I have an issue with my jag. I took it in for ateansmission flush to a mechanic here in town. He put it on the ramp and ran it through the gearsto remove the olf d fluid , then he calls me and tells me " You no longer have reverse, we cannot get it into reverse" he then sharts shiftingg the thing back and forth. He cannot get reverse to engage and tells me that the clutch may have eroded with the detergents in the new fluid ( it was the correct fluid , some 31.00 / liter stuff ). I've withheld payment on the service until I can verify the servivce had nothign to do with the loss of the gear ( it was running wonderfully before). Any ideas on hat could have nhappened , did he get the wrong level or an airpocket in the fill. Nedd advice, thanks

Here's a new review on the 2007 Jaguar S-Type, with a list of information on the new features and specs of the luxury car. Also available is a photo / wallpaper gallery with the sedan.

"Jaguar revealed the specifications for the 2007 S-Type. The luxury saloon is offered with four different engines: including class-leading 2.7-litre twin-turbo diesel, 3.0-litre V6 petrol and renowned 4.2-litre naturally aspirated and supercharged V8s..."

My 2001 S type 4.0, after I drive it for 1-2 hours I hear a noise when it changes gears - maybe 2nd to 3rd. Any ideas? On short jaunts no noise.

I have a CATS system fault on my 2001 4.0 s-type Jag. Does anyone know how to find where the fault is? Front/Back strut? Left/Right strut? The clear on the message console will remove the message until I restart the car and then it reappears. The reset on the message center appears to do nothing. It does not set an ODBC code. I miss the smooth ride it provides.

I have been thinking about buying a friend's 2001 S-Type with the 4.0 V-8. It has 23,000 km and was his wife's car. It's absolutely clean, but I am concerned about the Ford 5R55N transmission, A/C/heating and other miscellaneous (and likely expensive) mechanical experiences due to the age of the parts, even though the km's are low. Am I buying headaches in a few thousand km?

Not with mileage that low. You still have to put about 90000km on it before it starts acting silly. Usually they start acting up around 80000miles which i guess is about 130000 km

If you have 35k AFTER you buy the S-type for the repairs and cost of ownership (www.consumerreports.com). 5 Years = 35k in repair costs on avg. I happen to have an S-type that I love and care for, and it loves me back. The A6 styling isn't as nice, but I am sure its parts hold up better. I would still pick the S-type.

Hi all,
I like to start that I am enthousiatique about S-Type. I am living in UAE, and looking to buy S Type. S 2005 are available for 30-32 K US$, while 2006 are 35-37 K US$
While i have been searching at a reputable car dealer, he advised to go for A6 (almost similar prices). One of the points he mentioned was that the S Type has a small room/space at the back passengers, and the rear view is narrow!
I know he is trying to sell me the A6, but I searched over the net, and found some sites stating the same about the S Type.
I need advise, from S users, is this correct? I saw the S Type, and dont find them that small; but from the owners of S Type, did they encounter situations where back passengers are complaining of space? or they find the rear view disturbing while driving?
Excuse me if it is not the right place to post this message, and comparing S with A6, but I will appreciate any comments
Thanks
Sherif

I agree. I own a 2000 S-type with that transmission,
and I have 63k on the car. The transmission(x-fingers) has never failed. The parts do age, expect maintenance costs... but where else would you get a car that offers that much at that sort of a price? Remember though, the parts to the car, when you order them
are parts to a NEW s-type... and they are not cheap.

A new Ford 5R55N transmission lists for around 1300 -2000. You may want to look into a local shop to put it on... only takes a few hours to mount. DONT GOTO THE JAG DEALERSHIP.

And you shouldn't. If you aren't taking the car to a second, UN JAG RELATED, shop to get a different estimate (all below 3g's for me)- then don't ever buy one.
Owning a Jaguar is not about the money, its about your resourcefullness. If you make enough money for a Jag, hopefully you are smart enough to get the repairs done cheaply and correctly. If you are that resourceful, then you couldn't afford the Jag in the first place.

Have you looked for a plug on the side ot the transmission yet ? The manual says it sealed for life and never need replenishing. Yeah right !
I've read alot of "bad transmission" posts on the net, but not one person mentions anything about topping off the fluid. Duh... Put the car on stands and go find the fill plug guys, there has to be one there somewhere.

Thats weird, it says im in Castella CA, and im in Red Bluff, CA... Anyway, all transmissions have drain and fill plugs, period. I suggest everyone who owns one of these cars, buy a service manual.
Also, I read where people talk about having a hard time getting the car out of park on an incline. Any car will do that if you let the park pin hold the car from rolling on a steep incline. Put the parking brake on first, then put the trans in park, and that won't happen. Dennis
