To have an entry in the compact segment with a 4 speed auto is almost criminal. Honda is the only one with a 5 speed, and the other are 6 speed.

In other news.....the Toyota Corolla was the top selling compact sedan in America. And all the other compact sedans weren't.

As a part owner of GM I'm very happy for them.

The Corolla has one of the highest MPG's among non-hybrid cars. Agree that it is bland, but it has been efficient and reliable.

Interestingly, the car continues to post declining sales. It is time for Toyota to introduce a new and improved version if they want to keep the legacy going. It was just this week that it was recalled for engine failures and fire.

And toyota would be wise to use a 3 cylinder turbo 1.0 litre diesel as the engine. It would leapfrog all the other compacts. Put in a 6 speed auto. It would also be a perfect engine for all
toyota's hybrids.

Brand loyalty is at an all-time low for all manufacturers. Every auto manufacturer has to keep raising the bar, including Toyota. The new Hyundai Elantra is an unbelievable competitor. As a Hyundai dealer in Ct, I am biased, but hey...it is a gorgeous car for the money. Jill

Hyundai will take Toyota’s place in due time.

I don't think there is much of a chance that a company like Toyota will be able to come out of this disaster in good standing. Raising the bar should not be on your radar.

Please forgive the interruption, but something has to be said about this issue of "arrested development"
I can't argue about whether or not it applies to Toyota.
But it could be argued that it definitely applies to some posters in these forums!

It will be very hard for them to get back on track. Their entire industrial area is located close to the nuclear plants and more than likely have radiation damage. This is going to cause problems for the auto industry all over the world.

I would venture too say that some of the speculation on this thread is likely to be correct. Let’s face it, this is damaging to Toyota’s operations, big time.

Another thought, each day the Nippon Toyota lines are stagnant, they lose 73 million.

Heres a thought , Its not just Nippon Toyota its every manufacturer that this is going to affect. Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Mitsubishi, all of them but as expected JJFADS has to spin the situation to make Toyota look bad. I am willing to bet he has a post somewheres blaming Toyota for the national debt, Aids, the extinction of the dodo and the Tsunami in Japan. Your ridiculous !
