Soft top on a 93 miata

I just replaced my top on my '93. The installer said not to unzip the window when putting the top down. Without unzipping it, the plastic window is getting crinkled and the top is very hard to snap back into place. Any advice?

an installer alos told me not to unzip the window. he said if i really wanted to unzip it, to unleash the clamps and open the top just a little to take the stress off the window zipper, then unzip the window. be carefull of the material on the back deck, it could scratch your window when it is laying flat on it.
