Most of the post on this report understands what has happened. That a shifting of taxes and no doubt a tax increase is taking place.
Pappy you'd be right if it wasnt for the increase in local income tax. And do you really think these politicians will pass that up. Even if you made only 20K per year that would be over $600 bucks. Not counting the extra 1% increase plus the assessed value can be pulled from the where ever they want to make the figures work for them.
It unfortunate that there will be no one opposing senator lawson in this years election. That is true in a lot of cases and why we get the same old tired arrogant poli back in.
Oh well Im tired of writing about this crap. These damm politicians just keep coming like roaches. Promising reduction of taxes and we end up paying more. Heck I seen a 1947 newspaper ( the Roswell paper) that one of the headlines on the front page was a tax reduction.
So it goes on and on and on.
Purdue economist Larry Deboer ran the numbers. 90 percent of Hoosiers will save an average of $145 dollars on their taxes, even factoring in sales tax. And nmore importantly, the caps will prevent future growth.

Why do we need assessors? Why not just base the value on the most recent sales price? Is that just too simple?
You apparently have no idea what all the assessors do.

Love the cynicism. You'll be receiving a 30 percent tx break yet this year. 38 percent in two years. Quit whining.

Unless, of course, you live in Lake or St Joseph county. Or unless your county increases the COIT to make up the difference (plus some, for good measure). Here in Marion, we already saw a 65% increase in our income taxes in 2007. And my property taxes currently aren't quite 1% of my assessed value. How much am I going to save again?

Honey, don't hold your breath for that break !

Many people are going to be very disappointed when they get their tax bills. The whining will get much more intense. And they will still be paying more sales tax.

If Marion County adopted a local option income tax, it would be a dollar for dollar reduction from property taxes, except for a potential 1/4 of a percnet for public safety costs. So, yes, your property taxes would go down even more than 38 percent.

And if you live in Lake or St. Joe, throw out the local elected officials who got you in this stupid mess far worse than the other 90 counties in the state

Honey, prove it. You tell me how disappointed we'll be. And then you back it up with absolutely nothing.

Eliminating property taxes sounds great but can someone please explain where the money will come from when that source of revenue is gone? I'm curious to hear your thoughts. Thank you.
Let's start with cutting the legistators' million dollar pension and lifetime health benefits for life, with family included.
That would be a big slice in tax expenditures.

Marion County ALREADY increased the local income tax 65%(from 1% to 1.65%). I'll just wait and see if my property taxes fall by that much. As far as I've hear, no one has even promised that. And of course that doesn't even touch on the sales tax, which is increasing 16.7%.

The only thing Senator Delph has accomplished with his immigration rhetoric is dividing Republicans, pushing Latinos and every other immigrant group into the Democratic party and recruited a bunch of nut cases to our party.
He has gone against immigration policies of President Bush, Governor Daniels, Indpls. Mayor Ballard, and both the Republican leadership of the Indiana Senate and House.
He needs to see that his approach to immigration has been rejected in Indiana and that ALL of the remaining US Presidential candidates of both parties have also publicly rejected his views.
This is a federal issue that needs to be addressed in Washington DC, not by grandstanding local politicians.
Do you want to see who voted for it and who voted against it you don't no much about the leadership of the house and senate do you here's the link 66 for it 33 not voted against it 23 democrates 10 republicans http://www.firesociety.com/forum/thread/22725... look it up. people don't stick with party lines remember them election time for not listening to the majority of us we want tough laws at state level if that's what it takes
