My 2000 Linclon LS has been acting as though it has overheated. When I pull over for 3-5 minutes, the indicator light goes off and then the car resumes as usual. It is real nerve wrecking and I don't know what to do. When I'm in route the temp gauge slowly goes up and I turn on the heat and it brings it back normal.
I am afraid that it will too expensive if I take it to the dealership. ANY SUGGESTIONS????
check to see if the gas cap is locked or twist all the way

FYI...COPS are coil on plug's. I'd first check to be sure your valve cover gaskets around the spark plug wells are not leaking (4 of them per side). if they are, you need gaskets, not coils at $60 each.

If not, check your error codes for the correct coils that are not producing a spark.

Sounds like you need more freon 134a or have a cooling fan issue. Have it checked, it won't cost much to find out.

I have 2001 Lincoln LS V8. I have had my car to the dealer several times because the AC blows hot air mostly on the passenger side. They tell me I should keep the thermostat on 65 on both sides & adjust the fans...I freeze at that. to me that is not a solution. & my passenger should be comfortable at 65 if i want mine on 72. That's what the comfort of the car is set up for. Anyone else having this problem??
I just had it happen and there is s valve that you can buy that controls both sides. It also may be a problem with your console switches have shorted out.

You need to see a mechanic and have the computer scan your vehicle for the fault codes that are going to point to the problem to be fixed.
Your car is running in "Limp" mode or protection mode due to a serious problem, it is only running on a few cylinders in hopes to protect itself from drivers who continue to drive the car thinking the repair bill will go away.
p.s ever use the spell check feature?

My 2004 Licoln ls has been one problem after another. Love it when it runs well but seldom stays that way. Replaced throttle body, brake pad just fell off, now it beeps constantly telling me service park brake. Plus now after changing coil pack it ran great (except that other beeping for brake) for a few weeks now 4 cylinders are not firing and mech has had it two days and no fix yet.
Oh and stay away from Franklin Ford, they suck!
I went through same problems with 2004 LS 6 cylinder, out of warranty. Searched and found rash of issues with the coils.'03 apparently has oil that gets into the plug wells, shorting them out. With '04 it is water that gets into the plug well & shorts out coils. Bought generic coils on ebay for about $100 shipped for all 6. But only 4 of the coils are accessible without taking off the intake manifold. Fortunately my error codes said cyl 1, 4, and 5. So I replaced these plus the other one that you can get to,#6. Plug wells in Cyl 4 & 5 were totally filled with water, as high as the place the boot contact goes on the plug. So, I used paper towels to soak up, and remove the water. Later I read the easy/quicker way is to blow the water out with and air compressor. Apparently, one of the hoses (or wiring) routs water so that it falls and gets into the plug wells on the driver side. The #1 cyl did not have any water in it, even though I had a code for it. I gooped dielectric grease around where the coil seats to the motor, to try to prevent it in the future. I think I will also try to reroute the hose that seems to be carrying the water back. I also may try to put some kind of flashing in front, to stop water from getting in.

While I was at it, I replaced the plugs on these too, in case they had been damaged by the water shorting. This, plus the coil replacements fixed my problems totally.(I had misfire codes on 3 cylinders, coil code, catalytic code, etc..) I think I had 8 or 9 codes total, but I believe they were all the result of the 3 bad coils.

Lincoln had a service bulletin, and/or recall, for the 8 cyl, but not for my 6. But, by doing the work myself, I was only out about $145 for plug and coils, and have two left over plugs and coils. To have the shop do them all would have been about $700, because of high labor to remove the intake manifold, and the coils are $50 each.

Concerning the parking brake error message, it appears to occur anytime your battery goes dead, or is disconnected. When starting the car, it has a message telling what to do. It is something like, "disengage parking brake", then says "engage parking brake" (or vice versa). I finally paid attention and did what it said, and it fixed the error message. This step is probably a safety measure to re-calibrate the system, after power loss?

I JUST HAD THIS PROBLEM HAPPEN TO ME ALSO. WHEN I ACCELERATE THE CAR TO ABOUT 50MPH THE CAR WILL START TO ACT SLUGGISH BUT ANY SPEED ABOVE OR BELOW IS FINE. I DONT KNOW IF THAT WAS THE CASE WITH YOUR 2001. I HAVENT TAKEN IT IN BUT I MIGHT HAVE A BETTER CHANCE OF EXPLAINING TO THE DEALERSHIP WHAT MIGHT BE WRONG KNOWING WHAT WAS WRONG WITH YOUR CAR. LAST TIME I TOOK IT IN FOR THE PROBLEM I GOT CHARGED WITH THE DIAGNOSTIC AND A SIMPLE "THE CAR IS FINE"
i just bought a 2001 Lincoln LS v8 and the previous owner told me when i asked about the check engine light on, she said she had just taken it to a dealer and they told her she probably got bad fuel and to run about 3 full tanks of hi octane fuel thru and it would stop. According to her it has been the third time its done it for her as well. But it does exactly like yours at about 50-60 it sputters like it's got water in fuel then thats it once you get over 60MPH. and it does it every now and then while it's idling it tends to loose a little a/c cooling when it sputters as well...

The more i think about the dealerships fix for the problem....to run 3 tank fulls of hi octane fuel thru and it will quit....Well I always run hi octane any way it call for 91+.....so what the heck....duh that is definetly and pass the buck solution. Please let me know it you find a fix for yours and i will do the same....

replace the radiator. if you let it get to top temp. you'll pull over and discover that the fluid is escaping out of the radiator cap....which is because the radiator is clogged and the heat cant escape out. I just fixed mine...heating problem is always either the thermo...the head gasket....or the radiator....id just changed the radiator and throw in a new thermo anyway...its only $10

You drove the car for a YEAR with check engine light ON and your calling the car crap. You didn't diagnose the problem right the first time and its the cars fault. Your funny.

Hi, I have a 2005 Lincoln LS V8 and the other day I went to start my car and the battery was dead. i bought a new one, and the very next day at a red light the car begin to attempt to die. The lights and radio stop working but the car was still running. i turned off the air and unpluged the phone charger and the lights resumed and the car made it home. however I got a message saying "charging system low". QUESTION: What could be causing this; and is it expensive? Is it a simple fix? Thanks!
