I have a 2003 LS sport. After replacing a bad coil pack, the car will now shut down while accelerating. It shows "ETC engine fail safe mode".. I have to pull over and let it sit for a few minutes then I can fire it right up and drive off. Has done this a couple of times and seems to be associated with accelerating.. Garage can find nothing wrong with it! I love lincolns but this model is their curse!

I have a 2001 LS and the check engine light is on. for me thats not a big suprise. over the last few months ive put almost three thousand dollars into getting that light to go off. i have gotten to fix a few things that had gone wrong but now my mechanic tells me that the light is for my emissions control. he checked the actual emissions and they are fine but then found out that the emission censoris set too sensitive and it would have to be shipped out of the country to get that fixed. im trying to sell it and i need a quick fix. PLEASE HELP! Anyone.

my 03 lincoln v8 sport is at 19k but was rebuilt 4years ago. I had it for about 3 weeks & then I went & got gas @ sams club & then at the next stop light it starts idling rough & the engine light comes on. the codes have read spark plugs & ignition coils since then I've had 6 out of the 8 coils changed & new plugs put in & it seems to be running even worse. now they want $300 more just for diagnostic to see if its an injector or a wire that crossed or something. has anyone had tis problem!? I want to drive this beautiful car soon!

You are aware that your car is equipped with an option called "Global windows" right? If you hold the unlock on your key fob for like 5 seconds it rolls down all windows and opens the sunroof. You must of sat(or something like that) on the remote and kept the unlock button pressed. Read in your manual. If you want all windows up you put key in door and hold in lock position. Let me know how it goes.

Thank you that is what it was I did not get a book with mine but bought one ........Thanks again!!!!

I would like to add an additional question (more serious one). I have recently replaced my transmission since the machanic said that was the problem, but wasn't. After replacing transmission, my car was still misfired. It showed up that my 3rd coil pack was bad, so I replaced it. It is still doing the same thing (but worse) and is still showing that my 3rd coil pack is bad. Now, the mechanic thinks it is due to weak compression from the engine. My check engine light is on and when I get up to 4o mph it starts sputtering and jerking.I am so sick of spending money on this car. Have anyone had these types of promblems? If so, what did you do to fix it?
did u ever find out the problem? I've replaced 6 out of the 8 coils & still have the problem. luckily there is a recall for the ignition coils! HELP!!!! [email protected]

I have a 2002 lincoln ls v-8. It has advance-trac. The "check advance trac" light comes on afterstarting, but does not go out. The lincoln dealer says it will cost $900.00 to repair. Is there another way to fix this?
I had the same problem because they cahnged out the control module in the dash and that caused the problem they simply reset the traction controal light and everything was fine

CEL light and ETC shutdown. I replaced all the sparkplugs with new titanium sparkies, vehicle had the original plugs and with 124 K on them, they were spent, but had been burning clean.. Checked resistance in all existing coils to the new one that had been recently installed and found all readings comparable. While this may not have been the "stress" test I read about, it would show anything completely failed. I also added a good fuel line cleaner and octane booster and will continue to do so every other tank. Replacing the fuel filter next. Results to date; CEL is off, and have driven the vehicle 200 miles without a shutdown. Would love to figure out why only the steering wheel radio controls don't work but the cruise controls do! Thanks, information on this forum has been helpful.

I have a 2001 lincoln ls and everytime i use the a/c it starts to overheat. even when i don't use the a/c the temperature gauge starts to raise higher than usual when im stopped for a short period with the engine on. also lately i've been having problems with the engine missing. when i push the accelerator the vehicle jerks itself like its missing or something kinda like it wants to stop but then it keeps going. anybody experiencing the same problems or know a solution?

Those codes mean bank 1 and 2 runnning lean. Could be dirty MAF,Vacuum leak or bad 02's. Also the oil smell out vents means your valve cover gaskets are leaking.

There is a EVO(electronic variable orfice) valve on the cooling pump that controls when pump puts out high or low pressure. Those can go bad.

Eric, your overheating problem may be due to your radiator fan not working, whether its electric or not, regardless start there. Next thing I have read repeatedly, it seems these cars are bad for accumulating an air pocket in the engine that must be vented. You can find information in previous post, fact, you can probable find most anything wrong with your car in this forum. While you may not agree on most of the solutions it does offer a starting point. Regarding the "jerking" I'm surprised that you don't have a code showing up. While that can be a starting point it can also be misleading to some degree so be careful. Especially if you take the vehicle to a shop. My missing, reflected trouble codes not associated with what I have found and repaired to date. Check those spark plugs and coil packs. Also, I was advised to gap my spark plugs at between .042 and.043.. Seems the standard gap of .044 for older coils, shows up as a miss. I would definately read as much as possible before trying anything or throwing a ton of money at it. I repaired all my spark plugs and checked my coils in about 2 hrs for about $50. used recommended titanium plugs. Previously paid a shop $225. to replaced one spark plug and 1 coil pack.. Then the vehicle started really crapping out! Read my earlier post... Do your homework! Good luck!
