My '03 Lincoln Navigator started making a rattle noise which sounded like a loose fan. I asked for advice, was told it was and to fix it when I could that it wasn't a huge deal. A few weeks later my oil light comes on and says low oil pressure. I pull over check the dip stick and it wasn't reading any oil. Added oil, was still making the noise and throwing low oil pressure code. The engine shut off but I was able to quickly get it started again and pulled over. Since then the oil and filter have been changed and metal shavings were found in the oil. I've been told it could be my oil pump, lifter's, sensor or tensioner. A mechanic who has not looked at the car said I have to put a new engine in it. Any thoughts, suggestions or past experience with this type of problem are greatly appreciated.

The low oil pressure caused the rod bearing(s) to spin and become obliterated into hundreds of tiny shavings. You need a serious engine rebuilding
