Can someone help me with my 2000 Lincoln Navigator air suspension problem? When I got off the car I heard this loud noise. It almost sounded like a deflating balloon and when it stopped I noticed that the rear end of my Navigator was sitting too low. I popped the hood and noticed that this black tube like thing that’s about an inch long was busted. On a previous discussion I think someone refer that to as a "union". I was able to replace that without a problem and my Navigator's rear end raised up to normal again.
Here's the problem... Ever since that happened, my air suspension started acting funny. The car would sometimes have a bumpy ride. Almost like riding a lowered car. I also noticed that sometimes the rear end would sit too high when parked. Sometimes one side of the rear end would sit higher than the other. Once in a while I'd hear the air suspension go but not as much as before. I always hear that "click click" sound coming from the rear end everytime I park. Occasionally, I'd hear it while I'm driving too. It sounds like a relay but I'm not sure. I need your help. Please advice me of what to do. Thank you so much!!! |

I am having a similar problem with my 03. The right front suspension had an arm come loose and it dropped that corner as the air shock let all of the air out. I fixed the arm and the suspension seemed fine for a while, but now the compressor runs for a long time, and even after the vehicle has been turned off. In fact, this morning I noticed that my battery was dead since the pump was running all night! I think that something needs to be reset in the leveling system and I also think that my compressor may be bad. I will continue to search the web and let you know if I find anyone that has solved this problem.

I've got a similar problem as well. My wife hit a bump today and the rear dropped. It has the low-rider look as well. I'm a bit adamant about taking it to the mechanic or dealership because of the various problems it could be. I'm not trying to pay for a new compressor if its not required... Oh...what to do...

The "click click" from the right rear panel is probably the actuator for the a/c. Mine used to only make the clicking sound when I had the rear a/c on, so I stopped using it. But then it started making a different clicking sound even with the a/c off. Annoying, but doesn't affect the car itself. The dealer charges around $400 to replace it. A friend had another shop replace his for half the amount.

I have a 99 navigator and the rear of mine is about 2 or 3 inches lower then the front.. I did nothing differently but drive it to work. Also gives it a bumpy ride as if i'm only on the springs. I'm not getting any lights to check the suspension or that there is an engine problem so i have no idea what it is. Anyone know a quick fix? Fuses? Broken hose?

It's the height sensors. The 03 as alot of problems with the air ride. I have had the compressor replaced, and countless other suspension related parts. But I really think replacing the seized up height sensors is the the key. Have your mechanic check them they should move very smoothly and without any resistance. If they don't have them all replaced.
Good luck P.S Know anyone who wants to buy a 03 Navigator :) |

If you need anything on Lincoln Air ride suspension parts go to www.arnottindustries.com ,they are the cheapest you will find.I needed a air spring and the compressor,in parts alone at the dealer it was about $1200,with these guys i spent $350 total for both parts.

I have and 03 Nav. Recently I hear a constant knocking sound from the rear passenger side panel. Can anybody help with this matter?

I agree with arnott industries they are great I was quoted $2500 (not including air compressor) to fix the right side air ride and fixed it my self with products from arrnott industries including a new air compressor, all for under $500 |

1 My problem was exactly the same. Balloon deflating/ rear setting on tires, etc. Primary mechanic said have to take to dealer---wouldn't even look at. Said likely with the 100k miles on my 00 Navigator, it was the suspension air bags and I'd be facing huge repairs costs of $1000-$1500. Tough enough trying to like the vehicle getting under 15 miles/gallon. Dealership "fortunately" said they couldn't look at for 2-3 days which made me desperate as I needed vehicle for driving 7 of us to little league allstars 100 miles from home. Got smart and took to a mechanic I knew who primarily works on "big rigs" which I knew had air suspension. He found problem in no time flat being bad o-rings in hose fittings and fixed for $70 including $40 labor in about an hour. Thinking outside the box along with this site made me "feel like I found $1000.00" thanks |

Thanks for the tip! I have a 1999 Navigator and I've already replaced the whole compressor and 3 years later i have a faulty relay switch, but I'm about to convert my rear suspension to coil springs. |

Did you eventuaaly change over to coils? if so, how is it? Any major differences? Thinking of doing the same. |

I've got an '01 Nav. When I bought it the compressor was sooo loud. The dealer said it was normal. Then I noticed that when it would sit for a few days the back end would dip more and more. Eventually I noticed a "hot" smell coming from the drivers rear wheel well. I noticed that for about a week. so I parked it and drove my other car. The other day I started it back up and within seconds of the compressor (still loud) coming on smoke just starts rolling from under the wheel well.
I'm scared its going to cost me $1000 + to fix...Anyone have similar issues or know enough about these suspension units to point me in the right direction? |

I have an '03 Navigator and the front end will not stay up. When I start it the pump comes up but the front end will never raise. I have had it at the dealers twice now. The first time they replaced the leveling sensors. The second time they replace some air tee's. I told that they never fixed it right. I ended up taking it home because I don't trust this dealer to actually find the problem. My check suspension comes on about 15 miles down the road.
