Please tell me what is wrong. My 2001 Lincoln LS has become a deathtrap. It can stall when you are driving at any speed. My emission light is on. Sometimes the car's engine sounds fine. Other times it sounds like it is missing. It is these times when the car is "missing" that the tranny slips. Once at a red light I could smell something burning, like crayons. When the smell went away the car drove like it was brand new. Is there a correlation between the tranny and the emissions system.

I also have a 2001 ls v8 and i get a burning smell every once in a while too. But the car has ran fine. I saw smoke coming out from the driver side of the hood cowl and it was coming off of the engine on that side. But i couldn't see what it was. Hopefully i don't have your problem. Just thought i'd let you know you're not the only one.

I also have a 2001 LS V8 and what you may be happening is that you need to have your valve cover gaskets replaced. As for the missing have the spark plug coil packs checked. Each spark plug has it own coil and what has happened is oil has leaked on the coil pack and causing the spark plug to miss. A coil pack will cost appx 75.00 each. I know I've been there already.

Sergey, My '01 LS vibrates at identical speed (42mph). At that speed, torque conv locks (better gas mileage) so turning power is directly sent to the trans output. There's no fluid clutch to smooth eng "kick". Notice your RPM, it's between 1K to 1.5K, right? You're probably feeling every cylinder firing at that low RPM! Is your engine the V8 3.9? It's got a lot of power! Also, I noticed if tire size (in my case- pressure) is uneven, rear diff creates a little resistance and the vibration is even louder.:] Peace

Not normal. Passenger seat "weighs" the passenger. If under 85 or so pounds, it only deploys with half the force (i.e. small child). If under 35 lbs, it won't explode!(infant) The weight sensor can get messed up. A dealership has special weights, plastic asses- no joke!, that put just the right amount of weight on the seat for recalibration with a diagnostic computer. See the dealer. If you're out of warranty, it should cost under $100.:]Peace out

I have a 2000 LS and had pretty much the same problem as I am seeing here. The engine would shutter and lose power around 40 to 50 mph. The car idled real rough at a stop. If I tried to accelerate, the engine would lose almost all power. The problem was that the rubber gasgets cracked and allowed oil into the valves and started burning (afwul smell). The #3 and #5 coil packs were full of oil and needed to be replaced along with all new spark plugs and wires. With labor the final cost was $1001.00 I would recommend getting it checked sooner than later, so that you dont ruin any more coil packs with leaking oil.

I have a 2002 Lincoln LS V8, and every now and then I smell smoke coming from the hood on the drivers side. This morning when I got out of the car, I saw smoke. I opened the hood and it was coming from the drivers side towards the back, however I could not pin point where. Could some one with some insight please instruct me on what to do or what it means. My car only see the dealer however, that gets strenuous on your pocket book.

I have a 01 LS v6 and my trans will not go into overdrive sometimes. I had it scanned and it said that it was a FPV ( fluis pressure valve) selenoid "C". Can anyone tell me where that is located and how much one is. I know it is a dealer part only. And also,it has no dipstick so how or where do you check the fluid, maybe by pulling the plug like on a manual trans or what. I would appreciate your help. Thanks.

Just bought a 2003 LS... It also has a slight indecisive shifting problem, but that was only till i learned to manipulate it, its a common thing in the 2003, and other models with the French made Transmission. Im a certified technician, so any questions or comments please feel free and I will help the best i can. for the questions above I will not answer cuz they are old.

Just told my 2002 LS needs a $3500 new transmission at only 57,000 miles. Check transmission light has come on periodically since 29,000 miles. Have brought to dealer & they could not find any problem until of course I need a new transmission. Anyone with similar issues? Thanks.

I had the same problem with my 2001 LS...I replaced my transmission at 58000 miles after numerous trip to dealer ship before warranty. Then again at 89000 miles I had extend coverage on the first time but the last one cost me 4500.00. Now I'm having issue with #4 misfiring. The car is missing and wanting to stall. It looks great but it's a slot machine that don't play well.

I bought a 2001 LS V8 in 2006. I'm having the problem with it changing gears sluggishly. It seems as if when it cahnges ti third gear, it cuts back, not smooth in changing. Has any one had that prblem? Please let me know so that I can get it resolved. I do have a extended warranty.
