The car feels like its missing at idle but drives out of it smoothly until about 45 miles an hour and then it is really noticeable.. It isn't throwing any codes and the CEL isn't on. Any ideas on where to start?

When the coils are starting to fail they sometimes don't throw codes for awhile. Ford can do a stress test on them. I'm guessing you have the V8?

Yes i do have the V8 Frank and thanks for the swift response. I was able to retrieve a code today but cant find any info on it maybe you will be familiar. It was not an active code but it was there none the less. the code was C1676. And I had a friend who is a Tech for chevy drive the car today and he said the idle problem was def. a miss but the problem at 40-45 felt less like a miss and more like a trans issue any ideas?

I have a 2000 LS that is misfiring on the 8th cylinder according to my hand held diagnostic thiga-ma-jig.
I'm thinking the coil needs to be replaced.
Any thoughts?
How did your issue work out, Mike?
I get the same problem you described around 45mph. I find if I drop it into 4th gear it handles the problem a bit bettrer. Once I get to hwy speed I go back into 5th.
Love this car, but damn!! So many problems over the years.

I have had several problems with the engine misfiring. Each time i have it checked it says another ingnition coil pack is bad. I have now changed 5 ignition coils packs and 1 of them twice in 6 months. Once i change one of the ignition coil packs it runs great until another one goes bad. Seems like it starts misfiring about every two months and is a different coil pack. I would suggest changing the ignition coil pack and see if that helps. They are really easy to change yourself and cost about 50 bucks at AutoZone.

A "C" code means a chassis code not related to "P" codes powertrain. So the C code not a misfire or trans issue.

Takes the same as your PS reservoir.(trans fluid)It is your Power assisted cooling fan pump.

My 2000 Lincoln LS V8 lost almost all the plastic under body that cost me to have to have the electrical harness to be patched, now it cuts off when idle only after I've driven to work and back going any where else that causes me to stop and start like in traffic I have to keep restarting the car until I get a few blocks non stop then it's runs fine. What I s going on?
