I own a 2005 LR3 V8 SE7 and i do take it off road and i met 7 people from just the greater Hampton Roads area with LR3 that were doing the same thing that I was.. This whole issue about size and price is debateable especially considerig that the Hummer H2 is much larger and in many respects, not as nice. The LR3 is also not even close to the same league as the Tuareg, Tiguan, Cx-9, Cayenne, and X5 just because they are smaller and they lack the off road prowess that comes with the Land Rover. This is due to the fact that its "Competitors" were built with road handling in mind, not off road. So if you were so concerned about the practicality and the fuel milage, why don't you get a honda fit. Finally on a side note, 2 people at this off road event brought brand new 2009 range rovers and took them off road. There are more Crazy People who are not in their right mind than you think.
P.S. the defender is not exactly cheap, it comes in around 18500 british pounds.
